Aussie Hoopla was lucky enough to sit down with the extremely busy NBL General Manager Jeremy Loeliger this episode. In between a hectic couple of days between the end of the NBL regular season and the end of season awards night we spoke about the incredible ground that the NBL has been able to cover in 2017 and what fans can look forward to in 2018.
For those that don’t know Jeremy Loeliger is an NBL tragic just like us. 20 year ago he was handing towels and drinks to South East Melbourne Magic players and idolising superstars of the time like, such as Bruce Bolden, Tony Ronaldson, Mike Kelly and Adonis Jordan.
Jeremy Loeliger was appointed General Manager of the National Basketball League on from 1 July 2015 and has assisted Larry Kestelman with his vision to make the NBL the premier basketball league this side of the globe.
The 35-year old lawyer was a partner of a national law firm, practising corporate and commercial law before inheriting a position where instability and uncertainty were prevalent.
Clubs like Townsville, Adelaide and Illawarra at the time were struggling to operate and close to folding and how far the league has come in just two short seasons, is nothing short of amazing.
This episode we cover topics like;
- What does an NBL general manager do on a daily basis?
- The numbers of app downloads, TV viewers, crowd attendance, etc. for the past season and how successful this season has been.
- Where the league is at regarding adding new teams to the league and what needs to happen for that to be a reality.
- The NBL’s plans to work closer with the NBA and talks of having an NBL team in the NBA’s summer league.
- When to expect an NBA pre-season game in Australia.
- How the NBL plans to win market share from other sporting leagues like the Big Bash League and Soccer’s A-League.
- Who he thinks has the best chance of winning the NBL championship trophy this season.
All this and a whole lot more, download on iTunes, TuneIn or Sticher today.
