BIO: Young was born in Wichita, Kansas (USA) and attended Wichita East High School before continuing his development at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia.

Young’s basketball path after Wichita East took him to Hargrave Military Academy for the 1997-98 postgraduate season, where he played under head coach Scott Shepherd and alongside future Maryland big man Lonny Baxter and future NBA guard Anthony Grundy on one of the country’s most heavily followed prep teams.

Hargrave’s 1997-98 team finished with a No. 1 national ranking, and its season has been recorded as 23-1 in school historical material while broader schedule accounts have also credited the group with a 26-1 mark when tournament play was included.

During that postgraduate season, Hargrave won the Nike Super Six tournament at Madison Square Garden and also won a junior college tournament in Lewisburg, North Carolina, with Young serving as the headline prospect on a team that drew major recruiting and scouting attention all year.

Young was one of the top players in the 1998 recruiting class, was ranked as one of the nation’s elite prospects, and earned first-team Parade All-American recognition for both 1997 and 1998 while also becoming Hargrave’s first McDonald’s All-American selection.

He visited Arkansas, Connecticut, Georgetown and UNLV during that Hargrave season, and he was academically eligible for college, but instead chose to bypass the NCAA route and enter the 1998 NBA draft straight from prep school.

As a senior at Hargrave, he decided to skip college and declare himself eligible for the 1998 NBA Draft, a decision that surprised people close to the program, with Hargrave’s then assistant coach, Kevin Keatts, saying, “Normally, when a kid is thinking about something like this, you’ll hear about it. But with Korleone, it was a total surprise”.

Despite his status as a blue chip top college recruit, he slid in the draft before the Detroit Pistons decided to take a chance on Young, selecting him with their second-round pick (40th overall), although Young’s tenure with the team was very brief.

NBL EXPERIENCE

Korleone Young made his NBL debut with the Canberra Cannons at 22 years of age. He scored 11 points in his first game.

After NBA and CBA disappointments Young looked to continue his career overseas and signed with the NBL’s Canberra Cannons. With Canberra, Young averaged 27 points to become the 2001 NBL Preseason MVP, but he suffered a injury in the first game of the regular season and terminated his contract with the Cannons on January 9, 2002.

After his short EXPERIENCE with the Cannons Young attempted to realise his basketball potential with several other international times in Russia, China, Italy and Israel but was never able to deliver on the hype which accompanied his high school career.

Korleone Young played in one NBL game during the 2001-02 season, scoring 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists.

NBA EXPERIENCE

Korleone Young was drafted by the Detroit Pistons with pick #40 in the 1998 NBA Draft.

Young appeared in only three games at the end of the lockout-shortened 1999 season and scored 13 total points. The Pistons cut ties with Young soon afterwards because of an injury which limited his effectiveness, and despite summer-league stints with the Philadelphia 76ers, he never made another NBA roster.

The Pistons cut ties with Young soon afterwards because of an injury which limited his effectiveness, and despite summer-league stints with the Philadelphia 76ers, he never made another NBA roster. Because of his failed NBA career, Youngs name was cited by many people who supported David Sterns eventual raising of the NBAs minimum draft age. Additionally, Youngs coaches questioned his work ethic and maturity.

After his NBA career fizzled, Young played for the Richmond Rhythm of the IBL, averaging 9.7 points and 3.2 rebounds during the 1999–2000 season. The next year, he played for the CBAs Rockford Lightning under coach and former NBA player Stacey King, with whom he averaged 18.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Stacey King praised Young as "probably the best player in the CBA" in February 2001, as Young was improving statistically.

Young played 3 games in the NBA. He averaged 4.3 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 0.3 assists per game over his NBA career.
