NBL EXPERIENCE

Lyndon Brieffies made his NBL debut with the Brisbane Bullets on 14/4/1991. He went scoreless in his first NBL game.

Brisbane reshaped the end of its roster following the 1990 Grand Final loss to Perth, retaining captain Leroy Loggins, Derek Rucker, Andre Moore, Robert Sibley, Paul Rees, Greg Fox, Chris McGraw and Steve McLeod while adding Gordie McLeod (via Hobart), Brendan Joyce (via Westside Melbourne), Cameron Dickinson, development player Jason Cameron and Lyndon Brieffies. Brieffies had previously spent 1986 at the Australian Institute of Sport and played for its state league team.

Brieffies made his NBL debut against Southern Melbourne on April 14, finishing scoreless with 2 rebounds in just under three minutes as Brisbane suffered a 133-102 road loss. Loggins (24 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block) and Moore (20 points and 15 rebounds) led the Bullets, while Andrew Parkinson scored 41 points for the Saints.

Brieffies (1.7 points and 4.7 rebounds across 3 games) received only three opportunities during his rookie season but was productive on the glass in limited minutes, collecting 14 rebounds in 38 minutes. His highest-scoring appearance produced 3 points and 6 rebounds.

Rucker (26.6 points, 3 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 2.3 steals across 25 games), Loggins (25.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3 assists, 2.5 steals, and 1.4 blocks across 26 games) and Moore (23.5 points, 12.2 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and 1.9 blocks across 26 games) carried the bulk of Brisbane’s offence, while Sibley (14.1 points and 6.6 rebounds across 25 games) remained another important frontcourt contributor.

The Bullets completed their schedule at the AIS Arena on September 21, defeating Canberra 131-118 to finish ninth with a 13-13 record. Brisbane missed the postseason one year after reaching the Grand Final.

1992
Following Brisbane’s tenth-place finish the previous season, head coach Brian Kerle retained captain Leroy Loggins, Andre Moore, Paul Rees, Greg Fox and reserve forward Lyndon Brieffies. Derek Rucker, Robert Sibley (to Melbourne), Gordie McLeod, Brendan Joyce (to South East Melbourne) and Cameron Dickinson departed the playing roster, while with Rucker gone the Bullets added import Adrian Branch, Shane Heal (via Geelong), Simon Kerle, Blair Smith, Luke Gribble and Matthew Moore.

Brieffies produced both his best and highest-scoring game of the season in Brisbane’s opener at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on 4 April, finishing with 2 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists in nine minutes as the Bullets defeated Hobart 138-116. Loggins (33 points, 14 rebounds, 3 assists, and 5 steals) and Simon Kerle (23 points, 8 rebounds, 9 assists, and 2 steals) led Brisbane, while Ken McFadden (37 points) was best for the Devils.

Brieffies (0.6 points across 7 games) remained a deep reserve during his second NBL season, making seven appearances before his final game of the year against Canberra on 18 July. He remained with Brisbane for the following season.

Branch (28.4 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 1.6 steals across 25 games) led Brisbane in scoring, while Loggins (23.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 2.9 steals across 23 games) earned All-NBL Second Team honours. Heal (20.9 points, 7.1 assists, and 1.5 steals across 25 games), Moore (20.3 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks across 26 games) and Simon Kerle (11.2 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 assists across 24 games) provided the remainder of Brisbane’s main production. The Bullets won their opening two games, reached 6-4 through their first ten and recovered from a three-game losing streak in June to finish seventh with a 12-12 record.

Brieffies did not appear in either game of Brisbane’s quarterfinal series against Sydney, with the Kings winning game one 100-91 at the Sydney Entertainment Centre before a 130-123 win at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre completed the 2-0 sweep and ended the Bullets’ season.

Lyndon Brieffies played three seasons with the Brisbane Bullets. He averaged 1.5 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 0.1 assists in 22 NBL games.
