NBL EXPERIENCE
Stephen Holt made his NBL debut with the Melbourne United at 23 years of age. He scored 17 points in his first game.
Melbourne re-signed Daniel Kickert, added the Most Improved Player from the previous season, Todd Blanchfield (via Townsville), and managed to bring Chris Goulding back after a year in Spain.
Kickert had a stellar season, narrowly missing the exclusive 50–40–90 club, with shooting splits of 52.5/47.2/90.5, falling just four made free throws short. Melbourne finished the season in first place (18-10), with Daniel Kickert (14.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists) earning All-NBL First Team honours.
Despite this strong regular season under new coach Dean Demopoulos, the team was eliminated by New Zealand in the semifinals, losing in two straight games.
Holt appeared in 30 games, averaging 15.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.6 assists.
2017/18
In 2017/18, Holt averaged 9.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.3 assists, contributing to the Bullets’ eighth-place finish with a 9-19 record.
2018/19
After finishing dead last in 2018, Brisbane said goodbye to Adam Gibson (to South East Melbourne), Shaun Bruce (to Sydney), and Anthony Petrie (retired) and went on a recruiting drive that brought in Boomers sharpshooter Cameron Gliddon (via Cairns), Jason Cadee (via Sydney), Matt Hodgson (via Adelaide), Tom Jervis (via Perth), and Mika Vukona (via New Zealand). The Bullets also welcomed back Rio Olympian and former Chicago Bull Cam Bairstow, who was returning after a knee reconstruction, added Makoto Hiejima under the NBL’s Asian Player rule, making him the first Japanese player to sign with an NBL team, and added NBA veteran Alonzo Gee (via Puerto Rico) as an import.
These key signings were meant to bolster Brisbane’s roster as they prepared for a tough start to the season, with 12 of their first 15 games coming against last season’s top-four playoff teams.
Stephen Holt began the season as one of Brisbane’s key imports but struggled to find consistency. He played 11 games before being granted a mutual release in December to pursue an opportunity in Europe. Holt finished his stint with the Bullets averaging 7.1 points 1.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists. His best performances included 12 points 2 rebounds and 1 assist against New Zealand (11 Oct 2018), 12 points 3 rebounds and 3 assists against Melbourne (18 Nov 2018), and 12 points 1 rebound against Illawarra (22 Nov 2018).
After Holt’s departure, Brisbane signed Lamar Patterson (via China) to fill the gap. Despite the changes, Brisbane continued to be led by Lamar Patterson (17.8 points 6.2 rebounds 3.8 assists and 1.3 steals), Cameron Gliddon (13.7 points 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists), and Cam Bairstow (11.6 points 5.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists). Reuben Te Rangi (9.9 points 3.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists) won the league’s Most Improved Player and Sixth Man of the Year awards.
Brisbane finished the regular season tied with Adelaide (14-14) but secured the fourth spot due to a higher points percentage and advanced to the playoffs where they would lose to Perth in the semi-finals (0-2).

Holt joined MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg for the 2014–15 German Basketball Bundesliga season after signing on July 31, 2014, but left the club on September 26, 2014 before making an official league appearance.

Holt joined Barangay Ginebra San Miguel for the 2024–25 PBA season after being traded to the club on July 13, 2024, and he recorded 13 points, nine rebounds, two assists and three steals in his first Governors’ Cup game.
In 2026, Stephen Holt re-signed with Barangay Ginebra San Miguel on a new three-year contract. Holt’s extension secured his place as part of Ginebra’s core rotation moving forward in the PBA.
Holt continued with Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the 2025–26 PBA season, averaging 12.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 18 Philippine Cup games while adding 11.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists in eight Commissioner’s Cup games.
COLLEGE
Stephen Holt played four collegiate seasons at Saint Mary’s from 2010–11 through 2013–14, establishing himself as one of the most productive perimeter scorers in program history while appearing in 124 games and starting the majority of his career with the Gaels.
Holt emerged as a major contributor early in his Saint Mary’s career, earning West Coast Conference All-Freshman Team honours in 2010–11 after averaging double figures in scoring and quickly becoming a reliable offensive option within Randy Bennett’s system.
During the 2011–12 season, Holt helped guide Saint Mary’s to the NCAA Tournament, where the Gaels recorded a first-round victory over Memphis before falling in the second round, with Holt playing a key scoring role during the tournament run and throughout conference play.
As a junior in 2012–13, Holt continued his upward trajectory, averaging over 15 points per game and earning All-West Coast Conference honours while ranking among the league leaders in three-point field goals made and minutes played.
Holt’s senior season in 2013–14 marked the peak of his collegiate career, as he averaged approximately 17 points per game, led the West Coast Conference in scoring, and was named First Team All-WCC after carrying the Gaels’ offensive load for much of the season.
Across his four-year career at Saint Mary’s, Holt scored more than 1,500 points, ranking him among the top scorers in school history, while also finishing with over 300 career three-point field goals made and multiple seasons ranked among the WCC leaders in perimeter shooting.
Holt’s consistency was reflected in his durability and usage, as he played in nearly every game across four seasons and frequently ranked near the top of the conference in minutes per game, serving as a primary scorer, late-game option, and on-court leader for the Gaels.
By the conclusion of his Saint Mary’s career in 2014, Holt had compiled multiple All-WCC selections, an NCAA Tournament win, and one of the most statistically complete scoring résumés produced by a Saint Mary’s guard in the modern era.
