David Andersen led Montepaschi Siena (24-8) to a 92-57 victory over Cimberio Varese (17-15) 92-57 in the Italian SerieA. In a game MVP performance he recorded 17 points and grabbed 5 rebounds, as well as making 6/6 free throws in only 19 minutes. Montepaschi Siena is placed first in the SerieA. This is Andersen’s second player of the week award which bodes well for the Australian team which will need him immensely in the Boomers Olympic preparation games due to the loss of Andrew Bogut. Andersen has averaged 14.7ppg, 5.5rpg, 1.4apg, so far this season.

Daniel Kickert

Hometown: Kew, VIC

Current Team: PGE Turow (Spain –  ACB)

Former Teams: St Mary’s (NCAA), Gran Canaria (Spain – ACB),  CB Breogán (Spain – LEB)

Daniel Kickert, who is rumoured to be one of the Melbourne Tiger’s big signings for next season who is currently playing in the Polish PLK, was not able to help PGE Turow (2-8) this week. Despite the loss 86-63 defeat he delivered 18 points and 6 rebounds against the second-ranked Trefl Sopot in the Group A. In Kickert’s first season with the team he has been a big part of their success averaging 15.0ppg and 4.3rpg in the team’s first 10 games.

Brad Newley

Hometown: Lower Mitcham, SA

Current Team:  Valencia Basket (Spain –  ACB, Euroleague)

Former Teams: Townsville (NBL), Besiktas (Turkey), BC Lietuvos Rytas (Lithuania)

Brad Newley played 17 minutes in the Spanish ACB this week, filling the stat sheet for Valencia Basket (20-14) despite their loss to Lagun Aro GBC (19-15) in a spectacular overtime game 82-86 . He scored 6 points and added 2 rebounds and 2 assists.  The Adelaide born forward has been extremely consistent for Valencia this season averaging 6.0ppg and 2.1rpg across 19 games. In the same game his Aussie teammate A.J. Ogilvy added 1 point in 8 minutes of court time.

Steven Markovic

Hometown: Sydney, NSW

Current Team: Radnički Kragujevac (Serbia –  Serbian/Adriatic League)

Former Teams: West Sydney Razorbacks (NBL), Crvena Zvezda (Euroleague)

In the past few weeks Steven Markovic has made some serious claims to the fact that he should be a part of the Australian team. This week he contributed to a Radnicki Kragujevac (10-3) victory against the fifth-ranked Radnicki Basket (5-8) 77-69 in the Serbian A League. Providing 6 points, 8 assists and 2 steals, he was truly a factor at both ends of the floor. It was his team’s third consecutive victory. Currently Markovic stands sixth in the league in assists. This season he averages 7.4ppg, 1.6rpg and 4.5apg.
