NBL EXPERIENCE

Geremy Mckay made his NBL debut with the South East Melbourne Phoenix at 23 years of age. He scored two points in his first game.

Geremy McKay joined the NBL’s newest franchise as a development player, with inaugural coach Simon Mitchell building the Phoenix around marquee signing Mitch Creek and experienced additions John Roberson, Ben Madgen, Adam Gibson, Kyle Adnam, Tai Wesley and Dane Pineau.

His only NBL appearance came in South East Melbourne’s first home game against Brisbane on October 13, where he made his only field-goal attempt and finished with 2 points and 2 rebounds in four minutes. Roberson (30 points and 6 assists) and Creek (25 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 steals) led the Phoenix to a 113-93 victory, while Lamar Patterson (30 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists) was Brisbane’s best as South East Melbourne improved to 2-0.

McKay (2 points across 1 game) remained outside the regular rotation for the remainder of his development-player season, with no injury reported as the reason for his limited appearances. Creek (20.2 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.2 steals), Roberson (20.2 points and 5.6 assists), Madgen (12.1 points and 4.8 rebounds) and Wesley (10.7 points and 4.3 rebounds) were South East Melbourne’s major contributors as the Phoenix led the NBL in scoring at 95.4 points per game.

McKay did not appear again as South East Melbourne eventually entered its final game on a seven-game losing streak. Madgen (23 points and 4 rebounds) and Wesley (20 points, 6 rebounds, 1 steal, and 2 blocks) led the Phoenix against Melbourne United, while Chris Goulding (28 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals) led United to a 109-90 victory, leaving South East Melbourne second-last with a 9-19 record.

Geremy Mckay played in one NBL game during the 2019-20 season, scoring 2 points, 2 rebounds, and 0 assists.

INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • New Zealand - Otago (2021)

Geremy McKay joined Otago for the 2021 Sal’s NBL season, playing his first season in New Zealand.

Otago announced McKay’s signing on 18 January 2021, listing him as a 200cm forward as the club finalised its roster for the campaign.

In the 2021 season, McKay averaged 13.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists across 18 games for Otago, playing alongside centre Sam Timmins and guard Isaiah Moss as part of the Nuggets’ main rotation group.

COLLEGE

McKay’s NCAA career began at Albany in the 2014–15 season, where he made one appearance against NJIT on November 19, 2014 before redshirting the remainder of the year.

That Albany team finished 24–9 overall and won both the America East regular-season title (15–1 in conference play) and the America East Tournament championship, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament (Round of 64).

After the 2014–15 season, McKay transferred from Albany to Eastern Washington, with reporting at the time noting he was moving to a program with multiple Australians on the roster, and that the NCAA transfer process would require another sit-out period before he could play games again.

At Eastern Washington, McKay redshirted the 2015–16 season due to NCAA transfer rules before becoming eligible in 2016–17, when he appeared in 10 games and logged 50 total minutes for the Eagles. Across those 10 games in 2016–17, he scored 19 points (1.9 per game) and collected 14 rebounds (1.4 per game), shooting 6-of-8 from the field (.750) and 7-of-13 at the free-throw line (.538), with no made three-pointers recorded.
