BIO: Daniel Alexander Jackson was born in Wollongong (NSW) and began playing basketball as a junior with the Illawarra basketball program. He attended Illawarra Sports High School where he was honoured with Hall of Fame induction. Jackson received a scholarship to attend the Australian Institute of Sport (Canberra) in 2006. He spent one year there and played for the program’s state league team.

NBL EXPERIENCE

Daniel Jackson made his NBL debut with the Wollongong Hawks at 19 years of age. He scored eight points in his first game.

During his time with the Hawks Jackson helped the team reach the Grand Final after they finished in second place (16-12) during the 2009/10 season. The Hawks eliminated the third placed Townsville Crocodiles with Jackson playing minimal court time. He played in the first two games against the Crocodiles and scored a total of one point in the three game series. The Hawks then advanced to the NBL finals series to face the Perth Wildcats where Perth claimed game one at home, 75–64. The series then moved to Wollongong for game two, where the Hawks returned the favour, defeating Perth 75–63 and setting up a deciding Game 3. Back on their home court Perth comfortably defeated Wollongong in the decider, 96–72, with Jackson playing a total of three minutes in the series and Perth’s Kevin Lisch being named Finals MVP.

Daniel Jackson played six seasons the Wollongong Hawks. He averaged 1.3 points, 0.6 rebounds, and 0.2 assists in 120 NBL games.

Jackson joined the Australian Institute of Sport for the 2006 SEABL season, playing in the AIS men’s team after receiving a basketball scholarship and developing from the Illawarra junior pathway.

Jackson joined Canberra for the 2007 SEABL season after leaving the AIS, and that Canberra stint preceded his move into the professional ranks after the Gunners reached the SEABL East Conference Grand Final that year.

Illawarra added Jackson for the 2008 Waratah League season, with the Hawks acting as Wollongong’s affiliated junior and state league pathway during his early senior career.

Mackay added Jackson for the 2009 Queensland Basketball League season, giving him an off-season state league stint with the Meteors between his Illawarra and Canberra returns.

Jackson returned to Canberra for the 2010 SEABL season, continuing one of the off-season state league stops from his Wollongong period.

Illawarra brought Jackson back for the 2011 Waratah League season, and he helped the Hawks win the Waratah League championship while earning Grand Final MVP honours after Illawarra defeated the Newcastle Hunters in the title game.

Jackson stayed with Illawarra through the 2012 and 2013 Waratah League seasons, completing a three-year return stint with the Hawks after the 2011 championship run.

Canberra added Jackson again for the 2014 SEABL season, when the Gunners finished 10–16, placed seventh in the East Conference and named him the team’s Player’s Player.

Jackson remained with Canberra for the 2015 SEABL season, with the Gunners finishing 8–16, seventh in the East Conference and 14th overall.

Jackson continued with Canberra in the 2016 SEABL season, completing three straight seasons with the Gunners from 2014 to 2016.

Canberra remained part of Jackson’s state-league resume in 2019, giving him another Gunners entry after earlier stints in 2007, 2010 and 2014–2016.
