NBL EXPERIENCE

Terry Li made his NBL debut with the New Zealand Breakers at 19 years of age. He went scoreless in his first NBL game.

As Dan Shamir took over as coach and Director of Basketball following New Zealand’s sixth-place finish the previous season, the Breakers underwent a significant roster rebuild. Among the new additions was Terry Li (via NBA Global Academy), who chose New Zealand over interest from Melbourne and signed a three-year deal as a development player. “Terry is a good outside shooter with basketball intelligence and athleticism,” owner Matt Walsh said.

The development player made his NBL debut against Illawarra at Spark Arena on October 24, playing 2:02 and finishing scoreless as New Zealand recorded its first win of the season, 103-72. Henry (21 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals) and Webster (17 points and 6 assists) led the Breakers, while Brooks (19 points) led Illawarra.

Li (0 points across 3 games) saw only three brief appearances during his first professional season and no injury was reported as the reason for his limited playing time. His three appearances came against Illawarra, Melbourne and Adelaide.

Li’s best game came against Melbourne on January 19, where Li (0 points and 1 assist) played 34 seconds as New Zealand defeated United 90-68. Hopson (22 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals) and Delany (14 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals) led the Breakers, while former New Zealand centre Shawn Long (18 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks) led Melbourne. His final appearance came against Adelaide on January 31, where Li (0 points and 1 rebound) played 36 seconds in New Zealand’s 113-89 victory.

Hopson (18.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists across 21 games), Delany (11.8 points and 5.7 rebounds across 20 games), Henry (13.2 points and 3.4 assists across 26 games), Webster (19.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.3 assists across 11 games), Abercrombie (11.8 points and 4.3 rebounds across 28 games), Ashley (10.5 points and 6.3 rebounds across 28 games), Loe (9.3 points and 4 rebounds across 20 games), Hampton (8.8 points and 3.8 rebounds across 15 games), Weeks (5.6 points across 25 games) and Rice Jr (25 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.3 steals across 3 games) were New Zealand’s major contributors. Li remained under contract with the Breakers as a development player following the season.

Li did not appear in New Zealand’s final game against South East Melbourne in Christchurch, where Hopson (23 points, 5 rebounds, 10 assists, and 2 steals), Abercrombie (18 points and 5 rebounds) and Loe (18 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists) led the Breakers to a 92-83 victory. New Zealand finished sixth at 15-13 and missed the playoffs on points percentage.

Terry Li played one season in the NBL.
