McCullough joined Ironi Ramat Gan for the 2009–2010 Israeli Basketball Super League season, playing 13 regular season games with 13.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 2.1 steals in 24.9 minutes per game.

Taj McCullough joined VEF Riga in February 2010 in Latvia, signing for the remainder of the season after an initial two-week contract and averaging 15.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.7 steals across three Latvian League games.

Taj McCullough played four seasons at Winthrop from 2004-05 through 2007-08, appearing in 110 games with 40 starts while averaging 7.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game, and shooting 50.3% from the field, 32.2% from three-point range, and 55.5% at the free-throw line.

As a freshman in 2004-05, McCullough played 18 games off the bench and totaled 27 points in 78 minutes, shooting 11-for-22 from the field (50.0%) while adding 11 rebounds, 2 assists, 6 steals, and 2 blocks, then expanded his role in 2005-06 by playing 26 games with 6 starts and finishing with 109 points on 44-for-79 shooting (55.7%), plus 48 rebounds, 12 assists, 22 steals, and 6 blocks in 309 minutes.

McCullough’s junior season in 2006-07 included 32 games with 2 starts as he produced 254 points on 99-for-182 shooting (54.4%) with 120 rebounds, 33 assists, 42 steals, and 11 blocks, and he was part of Winthrop’s 2006 NCAA tournament run that ended in a two-point loss to Tennessee (63-61) in Greensboro, where he logged 6 minutes and scored 2 points with 2 rebounds (including 2 offensive rebounds) while going 1-for-1 from the field and 0-for-1 at the line.

In 2007-08, McCullough started 32 of 34 games and posted his best overall season averages at 11.6 points and a team-high 5.8 rebounds per game, finishing with 395 points in 961 minutes on 149-for-319 shooting (46.7%), along with 196 rebounds, 46 assists, 49 steals, and 16 blocks, and in Big South conference play that season he averaged 9.8 points and 5.6 rebounds in 14 games while shooting 46.6% from the field.

Across his four-year Winthrop career, he was part of four Big South Conference championship teams (2005-08) that earned NCAA tournament bids, and he was a rotation contributor on the 2006-07 squad that upset Notre Dame 74-64 in the NCAA tournament first round, a game where Winthrop’s recap noted his late first-half three-pointer swung the lead before a Michael Jenkins three extended it, and McCullough finished that Notre Dame win with 7 points and 4 rebounds in 17 minutes; the following season, Winthrop entered the 2008 NCAA tournament at 22-12 and McCullough led the Eagles in scoring against Washington State with 17 points on 8-for-17 shooting while adding 8 rebounds and 2 assists in 34 minutes.
