NBL EXPERIENCE

Kael Robinson made his NBL debut with the New Zealand Breakers at 24 years of age. He went scoreless in his first NBL game.

After finishing seventh with a 13–20 record in 2025/26, New Zealand reshaped its roster and appointed 2023 FIBA World Cup-winning German national-team coach Gordon Herbert on a two-year deal in May 2026, replacing Petteri Koponen. Parker Jackson-Cartwright, Sam Mennenga, Izayah Le’Afa, Reuben Te Rangi and Carlin Davison were among the returning players, with Dejan Vasiljevic, Kouat Noi, Anzac Rissetto and Charles Bediako providing additional experience and depth. The Breakers added Mojave King as injury cover for Josiah-Jordan James before the season.

On 10 August 2026, New Zealand signed Robinson as a development player following five seasons of American college basketball and a 2026 domestic-league campaign with the Franklin Bulls. The 201 cm Hamilton forward arrived after averaging 14.4 points and 4.5 rebounds in his final NCAA season at Northern Kentucky, where he hit 71 three-pointers at 39.2 percent. Robinson joined the group alongside fellow development players, including Tukaha Cooper, and was set to learn under Herbert and the Breakers’ senior roster.

New Zealand opened NBL27 at Spark Arena on 20 September by defeating defending champions Illawarra 95–81 in Herbert’s first game as Breakers coach. Sam Mennenga (27 points and 8 rebounds), Parker Jackson-Cartwright (23 points and 13 assists) and Dejan Vasiljevic (24 points) led the home side, with Robinson not among the players who appeared.

New Zealand hosted Cairns on 30 September for its first NBL27 Ignite Cup game, with Robinson receiving the final 39 seconds off the bench in the 98–75 victory at Spark Arena. The 24-year-old, wearing number 21, recorded no counting statistics in his first NBL appearance, entering late in the final period alongside Tukaha Cooper. Jackson-Cartwright (27 points and 10 assists), Mennenga (18 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists) and King (14 points) led the Breakers, while Jack McVeigh (16 points) led Cairns. The result improved New Zealand to 2–2 for the season and gave it all seven Ignite Cup points available from the contest.

When Jackson-Cartwright was sidelined with a lower-leg injury ahead of the 10 October road fixture against Perth, Robinson was elevated into Herbert’s match-day squad as cover. Through October 10, Robinson had made one NBL appearance.

Kael Robinson played in one NBL game during the 2026-27 season, scoring 0 points, 0 rebounds, and 0 assists.
