BIO: Justin Brown was born in Perth (WA) and grew up in nearby suburb Roleystone. Brown received a scholarship to attend the Australian Institute of Sport (Canberra) in 1996. He spent two years year there and played for the program’s state league team (1996, 1997).

NBL EXPERIENCE

Justin Brown made his NBL debut with the Perth Wildcats at 26 years of age. He scored two points in his first game.

As a rookie, Brown averaged 2.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 0.1 assists as the Wildcats finished in third place (23-10).

STATE LEAGUE EXPERIENCE

Brown joined the AIS for the 1996–97 period where the Canberra-based program gave him a high-level development setting and regular competition against senior opposition as part of the national pathway structure.

Brown returned to state league play with East Perth for the 2006 State Basketball League season where the Eagles finished 10th at 9–15 while he averaged 24.7 points and 13.1 rebounds, led the men’s competition in blocks and was named SBL MVP.

Brown played for Rockhampton in the 2009 Queensland Basketball League season where the Rockets reached the semi-final stage in Cairns.

Brown joined Kalamunda for the 2010 State Basketball League season and returned in 2011 where he was named Round 7 men’s Player of the Week while the Eastern Suns finished 10th at 10–16.

Brown remained with Kalamunda in 2012 where the Eastern Suns beat fourth-placed East Perth 105–100 and third-placed Cockburn 98–93 in the final weekend to make the top eight on head-to-head results, with Brown posting 24 points and 13 rebounds against Cockburn.

Brown moved to Perth for the 2013 State Basketball League season where the Redbacks finished eighth at 14–12 before losing to Lakeside in the quarter-finals, and he closed the regular season with 27 points and nine rebounds in a 104–97 loss to Perry Lakes.

Brown moved to Knox for the 2014 SEABL season after the Raiders signed him for that campaign.

FIBA EXPERIENCE

Brown represented Australia at the World Junior U/20 and U/23 championships.

NBA EXPERIENCE

After college, Brown was drafted by the Adirondack Wildcats in the USBL (2003). Brown was a also a member of the Dallas Mavericks NBA Summer League team in 2004 that played against the Chinese National team featuring Yao Ming.

Justin Brown joined Snaidero Cucine for the 2003–04 Lega Basket Serie A season, playing his first season in Italy.

Across the 2003–04 Serie A regular season, Brown appeared in 19 games and logged 108 total minutes, scoring 8 points on 8-of-22 shooting while recording 15 rebounds, 7 blocks, and 1 assist, with 14 fouls and 20 turnovers in that stretch.

During Brown’s time with Snaidero Cucine, the club’s roster included guard Michael Hicks and point guard Eddie Shannon, with frontcourt minutes also shared with big men such as Massimo Gattoni and Joel Zacchetti.

Brown also spent time playing in Germany, Spain, Greece, and England after his Italy stint.

COLLEGE

Justin Brown joined the University of Connecticut program as a center and was listed as a redshirt freshman on the 1998–99 Huskies roster before beginning his on-court career the following season. The Huskies would go on to win the National Championship that season.

Brown played four active seasons at UConn from 1999–00 to 2002–03, appearing in 89 games as a reserve big man and averaging 1.1 points and 1.4 rebounds in 5.2 minutes per game across his career.

As a freshman in 1999–00, Brown appeared in 11 games and contributed 1.2 points and 0.7 rebounds per outing, while the Huskies finished 25–10 overall.

His role remained limited but consistent over the next two years, playing 29 games as a sophomore in 2000–01 (1.2 points, 1.2 rebounds), then 26 games as a junior in 2001–02 (1.2 points, 1.9 rebounds), including a season where he was ranked 10th in the Big East in defensive rebounds (23).

During the 2001–02 season, Brown also missed time when he was ruled out with mononucleosis, with UConn noting the team played without him in that stretch.

As a senior in 2002–03, Brown played 23 games (1.0 points, 1.3 rebounds) on a UConn roster loaded with high-end talent, including Khalid El-Amin earlier in his career and later NBA names such as Caron Butler, Ben Gordon, Emeka Okafor, and Hilton Armstrong, while also sharing the frontcourt with NBL alumnus Kevin Freeman.
