Childress averaged 21 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists for the year after sitting out the majority of the season with injuries.
Childress who hasn’t played in the NBA since 2014, was only fit for 46% of the Kings season while the team finished dead last. A disappointing result for a team expected to contend for the title and was in the top three favorites earlier in the year to win the NBL championship at numerous betting agencies.
As yet has not been reported as to what D-League club Childress will be joining once he returns to the US. The 32-year-old was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks with the sixth overall selection in the 2004 NBA Draft.
Remaining a part of the Hawks’ organization through 2008, he then headed overseas to play for Olympiacos Piraeus in Greece.
Returning to the NBA as a member of the Phoenix Suns in 2010, Childress would go on to spend two full seasons in the desert before finding a new home once again.
Appearing in 14 games for the Brooklyn Nets during the 2012-2013 season, he last played in the NBA after seeing time in four contests for the New Orleans Pelicans in 2013-2014.
After two massive games, @jchillington has been named @nbl Player of the Week for Round 19!! ???? A photo posted by Sydney Kings ? (@officialsydneykings) on
Childress was named the NBL Player of Week today, so his talent is is certainly not in question when it comes to returning to the NBA.
The fact he has been unable to play half his games since arriving in Australia, where teams play 1-2 games a week should concern any NBA team (who would play 3-4 games per week) to take a chance on Childress.
