BIO: Jack Purchase was born in Melbourne (VIC) and began playing basketball for the Bulleen Boomers when he was about 6 years old through to the age of 12. Then he moved across to play for the Melbourne Tigers Tigers junior program as a teenager.

As a junior, Purchase impressed many coach by winning the under 16 National Junior Classic and the Victorian state title in the same year. He was also part of the winning under 18 National Junior Classic for two straight years as a bottom and top age player. While also winning the Victorian state title as a bottom age player he followed up by winning the under 20 Australian Junior Championship for two consecutive years.

In his last year with the Tigers junior program, Purchase was outstanding in the 2012 Big V Youth League (U23) competition. He averaged 21.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 5 assists per game, leading the Melbourne Tigers to the title and being named MVP.

FAMILY: Jack Purchase is the son of Nigel Purchase who played 250 games in the NBL. Jack’s mother Simone played WNBL for the Bulleen Boomers.

NBL EXPERIENCE

Jack Purchase made his NBL debut with the Melbourne United at 24 years of age. He went scoreless in his first NBL game.

Signed as a development player with Melbourne United, Jack Purchase saw limited opportunities to play during his first NBL season. Despite this, he was part of a team that secured fourth place with a 15-13 record and advanced to the playoffs.

ADELAIDE 36ERS
2020/21

During the 2020/21 season, Purchase joined the Adelaide 36ers to bolster their bench depth. His contributions were minimal, averaging 1.7 points, 0.4 rebounds, and 0.2 assists in limited court time. Adelaide finished the season in seventh place with a 13-23 record, missing out on the playoffs.

PERTH WILDCATS
2021/22

In 2021/22, Perth Wildcats underwent significant changes with Trevor Gleeson departing to coach in the NBA and several key players like Will Magnay and half of Perth’s bench rotation (Clint Steindl, Jarrad Weeks, and Jarred Bairstow) leaving to join Tasmania’s new NBL team. Perth brought in coach Scott Morrison and added key signings like Vic Law (via Brisbane) and Matthew Hodgson (via Brisbane) to rebuild their roster.

Purchase struggled to find consistent playing time under Morrison’s system, averaging just 0.3 points per game in minimal minutes. Despite the challenges, Perth spent the majority of the season among the top four teams in the league. However, injuries to Law and Cotton down the stretch caused the team to falter, and they only managed to win three of their final nine games.

Heading into the last game of the season against South East Melbourne, Perth sat in fourth place with their playoff chances on the line. Despite building an eight-point lead in the second half, the Wildcats were unable to secure the win and ultimately lost in overtime, ending their 36-year streak of consecutive playoff appearances, a run that had begun in 1986.

Jack Purchase currently plays for the Brisbane Bullets and has played 48 games in his NBL career. He has averaged 1.4 points, 0.8 rebounds, and 0.2 assists since entering the league in 2019.

Purchase returned to play for his junior team, the Melbourne Tigers, as part of their 2023 NBL1 South campaign excelling under head coach Andrew Gaze.

Purchased returned to play for Melbourne in the NBL1 in 2024.

In 2025, Jack Purchase opened the year in India’s national competition and captured league MVP honours before returning to NBL1 South with the Melbourne Tigers. Back in Melbourne, he suited up alongside fellow NBL talents Harry Froling and Tom Wilson and delivered one of his best NBL1 campaigns, averaging 21.4 points and 7.2 rebounds while operating as an elite stretch-four and floor-spacer.

Purchase was lights out from deep all season, hitting 43.8% from three on 8.7 attempts per game. His year featured a historic outburst as he broke the NBL1 single-game scoring record with 55 points (19-of-30 FG, 10-of-17 3PT), adding 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 blocks across a full 40 minutes, though Melbourne fell narrowly to Eltham, 85–87.

Melbourne surged to the NBL1 South Grand Final but fell to Sandringham 99–80 despite Purchase’s strong line of 20 points and 8 rebounds. This would lead to Brisbane signing Purchase to a one year deal in August 2025.

FIBA EXPERIENCE

Jack was a crucial member of the 2012 under 17 Australian Men’s team that won Silver at the World Championships.

INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • India - Hyderabad Falcons (2025)

Purchase joined Hyderabad Falcons for the 2025 Indian National Basketball League season in India and led the regular season with 172 points while winning league MVP and scoring champion honours.

In 2025, Jack Purchase played in India’s national competition where he won league MVP honours.

He remained with Hyderabad Falcons in 2025 and averaged 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists per game while helping the team reach the semi-finals.

COLLEGE

Jack Purchase began his NCAA career at Auburn in 2014–15, appearing in seven games as a freshman and averaging 1.3 points and 1.1 rebounds in 13.0 minutes per game while shooting 3-of-13 from three-point range.

After that freshman season, Purchase transferred to Hawai‘i and sat out the 2015–16 season due to NCAA transfer rules, arriving as one of head coach Eran Ganot’s early roster additions.

He became an immediate fixture in the Rainbow Warriors lineup in 2016–17, starting all 30 games and averaging 9.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 30.0 minutes per game while leading the team with 72 made threes on 38.9% shooting from deep and 89.5% at the line.

That sophomore season included multiple signature shooting performances, highlighted by a career-best 25 points and seven made threes in an overtime win over Long Beach State, with Hawai‘i noting the seven threes tied a school record for made threes in a Big West game.

In 2017–18, Purchase shifted into a bench role for much of the year but still played all 30 games and was named Big West Best Sixth Player, finishing the season at 7.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game while knocking down 50 more three-pointers.

As a senior in 2018–19, Purchase returned to the starting group for all 31 games and produced his best overall season at 11.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 46.1% from the field and 38.5% from three, earning second-team All-Big West recognition.

That final year also cemented his place in Hawai‘i history, as he broke Zane Johnson’s program record for career three-pointers made during a February 2019 win over UC Riverside, a game where he scored 23 points and hit five threes while pushing his career total past the previous 181 mark.

Across his three playing seasons at Hawai‘i (2016–17 to 2018–19), Purchase made 199 three-pointers, and across his full NCAA career (Auburn + Hawai‘i) he finished with 202 made threes in 98 games, averaging 8.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.
