Aussie Hoopla International Player of the Week

Aleks Maric

Each week the AussieHoopla.com Player of the Week award goes to the Aussie who has had the greatest impact both on the stat sheet and their teams record.  This weeks winner is….

Hometown: Sydney, NSW

Current Team: Panathinaikos (Greece –  Greek Cup, Eurocup)

Former Teams: Nebraska (NCAA), KK Partizan (Eurocup)

Aleks Maric is coming into some fine form prior to the Australian Boomers Olympic campaign. Although Maric was unable to deliver the victory for Panathinaikos he delivered a double-double in his last game of the season scoring 13 points and getting 11 rebounds in only 15 minutes on the court. Panathinaikos (22-2)  lost to fellow Aussie Joe Ingles and his Regal FC Barcelona (29-5) team 69-74 in the Euroleague Final Four. Maric Maric averaged 3.8ppg, 2.6rpg for the season with Panathinaikos.

Honourable Mentions

Last week’s POTW Joe Ingles continues to fill up the stat sheet with powerhouse Regal FC Barcelona‘s (29-5). In their 77-71 victory over 12th-ranked Assignia Manresa (15-19)  in the Spanish ACB, Ingles had 10 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Daniel Kickert

Hometown: Kew, VIC

Current Team: PGE Turow (Spain –  ACB)

Former Teams: St Mary’s (NCAA), Gran Canaria (Spain – ACB),  CB Breogán (Spain – LEB)

As Daniel Kickert hopes to make his first Australian Olympic team he certainly isn’t doing himself any damage with great performances like this during his stay in Poland. Kickert has been a huge contributor to the team this season and as PGE Turow (2-8) won 98-94 against second-ranked Trefl Sopot (6-4) he recorded 19 points in 33 minutes. The Polish league has only just begun but will have to miss Kickert’s performances when he soon takes time off for Olympics trainings shortly. Kickert has great stats so far this year, averaging 14.9ppg, 4.3rpg and 1.1apg.

Steven Markovic

Hometown: Sydney, NSW

Current Team: Radnički Kragujevac (Serbia –  Serbian/Adriatic League)

Former Teams: West Sydney Razorbacks (NBL), Crvena Zvezda (Euroleague)

This was not the typical performance we’d have here for our International Player of the Week, however with the majority of the European teams into their offseasons and many Aussie’s on their way back home due for Boomer’s try outs, there aren’t as many active Aussies playing right now. But no disrespect to Steven Markovic who had 6 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists in his team Radnicki Kragujevac (4-7) loss to powerhouse Partizan (9-2) 82-76. Markovic is a talked do-it-all player who is always on the Boomers radar. Expect to hear him mentioned more here in our POTW section. Markovic currently averages 7.8ppg, 1.5rpg and 3.9apg.
