NBL EXPERIENCE

Bj Carter made his NBL debut with the Sydney Kings at 21 years of age. He scored two points in his first game.

2004/05
In 2005, Sydney became the first team in NBL history to win three consecutive championships.

BJ Carter provided valuable depth off the bench, appearing in 15 games and averaging 4.9 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.0 assist per game. A reliable perimeter shooter, Carter contributed when called upon, giving the Kings an extra scoring option.

Under head coach Brian Goorjian, the Kings dominated the regular season, finishing atop the standings with a 21-11 record. They swept the Brisbane Bullets in the semifinals before facing the Illawarra Hawks in the Grand Final series.

Sydney controlled the Grand Final from start to finish, sweeping Illawarra in three straight games. Carter saw limited action but was part of the Kings’ historic three-peat, solidifying his place as a contributor to one of the NBL’s most dominant teams.

Bj Carter played seven seasons the Sydney Kings. He averaged 4.1 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 0.7 assists in 150 NBL games.

  • Sutherland (2003–2008), Ballarat (2009), Sutherland (2010–2011)

Carter joined Sutherland for the 2003 Waratah ABL Men season, leading the competition in three-point percentage at 43.4 percent and adding 78 rebounds across 12 games at 6.5 rebounds per game.

Carter continued with Sutherland in the 2004 Waratah ABL Men season, finishing fourth in the league in assists at 4.6 per game while Sutherland reached the Waratah semi-finals.

Sutherland kept Carter in its senior men’s group in 2005, and his early-2000s run with the club included a period as captain of the Sharks men’s senior team.

Carter remained with Sutherland for the 2006 Waratah League season, when the Sharks won the first of three straight men’s state league championships during his provided 2003–2008 stint with the club.

Carter played for Sutherland again in the 2007 Waratah League season, ranking second in the competition with 6.2 assists per game as the Sharks won another men’s Waratah League championship.

Carter completed the first part of his Sutherland run in the 2008 Waratah League season, with the Sharks winning a third straight men’s state league championship across 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Carter joined Ballarat for the 2009 SEABL season, signing with the Miners as a player while also taking on junior coaching and administration work with the club.

In 2009, Carter scored a game-high 28 points with six three-pointers for Ballarat in a 102–91 SEABL road loss to Mount Gambier, then added 15 points for the Miners in a 97–80 loss to Kilsyth later that season.

Carter returned to Sutherland for the 2010 Waratah League season, playing in the Sharks’ senior men’s group and scoring during a third-quarter push against Parramatta after Sutherland trailed by 20 points early in a 98–71 loss.

Carter continued with Sutherland in the 2011 Waratah League season, completing the second part of his provided Sutherland tenure as the Sharks finished sixth in the state league standings.

LIFE AFTER BASKETBALL

Carter's first job post-basketball was a blind installer before taking up a position within the Ballarat Basketball Association. A year later he returned to Sydney and started with him running PE programs in primary schools, a gig which lasted seven years.

Most recently he was working for Holt Allsands in a client-relations role where he has been since 2018.

In 2023, he was doing site inspections for Holts in Kurnell.
