Each week Aussie Hoopla shines a light on the best Aussie ballers currently plying their trade overseas.
Each week we award the player who had both the greatest impact on the stat sheet and the wins column.
Player Of The Week
Dyson Daniels
Current Team: New Orleans Pelicans (NBA)
Hometown: Bendigo, VIC
Last played in Australia: Australian Boomers (FIBA 2021)
19 yo Dyson Daniels produced 14 points, 9 assists, 8 rebounds, and 1 steal in the Pelican’s (13-8) 126-108 win over the Toronto Raptors (11-10) on Thursday to take out our International player of the week. In his 31 minutes off the bench, he shot 6-of-9 from the field and 1-of-2 from 3-point range.
His performance, which saw him set career highs in points and assists, showed the different ways he can influence a game. He has been able to make the most of the extra minutes in the rotation with Pelican’s injuries and didn’t look overwhelmed in the slightest.
Daniels was rewarded with his first start for the Pelicans (14-8) on Saturday and finished with 4 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists in 31 minutes, beating the Spurs (6-17) 117-99.
After limited minutes and opportunities early in the season, Daniels has seen a more significant role over the last eight games off the bench, averaging 6.6 points, five rebounds, and three assists on 52.5% shooting from the field. He has also brought great defensive energy, and with 3 straight wins this week for the Pelicans, it looks like Daniels may become a more permanent fixture in the rotation.

Honourable Mentions
Tyler Robertson
Current Team: Portland Pilots (NCAA)
Hometown: Melbourne, VIC
Last played in Australia: Under-17 Oceania Championships (FIBA 2017)
University of Portland (6-4) senior Tyler Robertson finished Thursday’s 100-79 win over Multnomah (0-1) with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and a career-high 12 assists across 33 minutes with Portland clocking up their 6th win of the season.
On Sunday, he managed to back that up against North Dakota (5-5) with 18 points, shooting 5 for 9 (1 for 3 from 3-point range) and 7 of 7 from the free-throw line, while adding six rebounds and five assists. Portland (7-4) got off to a fast start and led North Dakota 44-30 at the half, with Robertson scoring a team-high 10 points before the break. In the second half, Portland managed to hold strong and won easily 90-69.
Robertson is shooting 40.7% and averaging 16.1 points for the season but has developed his role as a facilitator, averaging 6.20 assists per game, up from 4 last year. They had a chance to beat North Carolina, then beat Villanova last week, and Robertson has played a key role for the team, who look like they can compete in the WCC this year.

Josh Giddey
Current Team: Oklahoma City Thunder (NBA)
Hometown: Melbourne, Australia
Last played in Australia: Adelaide 36ers (NBL20)
After taking the week 2 International player of the week honours a few weeks back, Giddey has continued to do Josh Giddey things. He scored 21 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, dished out 7 assists, and defensively had 2 blocks and as many steals in 33 mins in the Thunder’s (10-13) 128-135 win against the Timberwolves (11-12) on Sunday.
Giddey’s 3 from 7 from downtown was one other important stat for the game. This marked his most made threes in a game this season, where he struggled to find consistency from the 3-point range, making 1 of his last 14 attempts heading into Sunday.
On Thursday, the Thunder (9-13) took on the Spurs (6-16) without Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the league’s No. 3 scorer with 31.1 points per game overcame a 20-point second-half deficit to win 119-111. Giddey had a productive 14 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals with no turnovers over 33 minutes.

Tyrese Proctor
Current Team: Duke (NCAA)
Hometown: Sydney, Australia
Last played in Australia: Australian Boomers (FIBA 2022)
Freshman Guard Proctor finished Duke’s (6-3) Monday’s 75-56 loss to Purdue (7-0) with 16 points (7-13 FG, 2-2 FT), five rebounds, and three assists across 36 minutes.
Sunday’s game was Proctor’s best scoring game of the season so far, a step in the right direction. Starting in each of Duke’s eight games this season, his numbers haven’t been consistent, averaging 6.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, and he has appeared uncomfortable at times this season while adjusting to the college game.
Proctor followed up his season-high 16 points against Purdue with 12 against Ohio State (5-2) , playing primarily off the ball. Over the last week, there seemed to be some growth as he settles in with the team.
Arguably, Proctor has one of the highest ceilings of any Aussie prospect in recent years and is projected to be a first-round pick in the 2023 NBA Draft

Brock Motum
Current Team: Levanga Hokkaido (Japanese B.Leauge)
Hometown: Sunnybank, QLD
Last played in Australia: Adelaide 36ers (NBL 2015)
Despite falling short in overtime 108-115, Boomer and former Adelaide 36er Brock Motum finished Saturday’s Japanese B.League game against Shiga with 27 points and 7 rebounds for Levanga Hokkaido.
Motum departed Europen club AS Monaco, where he averaged 3.2 points and 1.1 rebounds, and joined Hokkaido in the B.Leauge for the 2022-23 season.
Motum has since started all 16 games for Hokkaido, averaging 17.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game, despite the team’s poor 5-11 start to the season, which has them sitting 20th out of 24 teams.
