BIO: Ashley Constable was born in Horsham (VIC) and began playing basketball as a junior with the Horsham basketball program.
NBL EXPERIENCE
Ashley Constable made his NBL debut with the Cairns Taipans at 21 years of age. He went scoreless in his first NBL game.
2015/16
After reaching the Grand Final and finishing first with a 21-7 record the previous season, Cairns entered 2015/16 under coach Aaron Fearne without Scottie Wilbekin (to Philadelphia), Mitch Young (to Townsville), Corey Maynard (to Townsville) and Nathan Sobey (to Adelaide). Cameron Gliddon, Torrey Craig, Cameron Tragardh, Alex Loughton, Stephen Weigh, Matt Burston and Shaun Bruce returned, while Markel Starks (via Italy) and Mark Worthington (via Melbourne) were added to the roster.
Ashley Constable returned for a second season with Cairns as a development player. His limited appearances were a result of his development-player role and being outside Fearne’s regular rotation, with no injury identified as the reason he played only once.
Constable’s only appearance came against Townsville at the Cairns Convention Centre on January 8, where Constable (0 points) played the final 1:16 and missed his only field-goal attempt as Cairns defeated the Crocodiles 75-61. Gliddon (25 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists) and Craig (15 points and 6 rebounds) led the Taipans, while Mirko Djeric (15 points) was Townsville’s leading scorer. The victory was Cairns’ second in succession and improved the Taipans to 9-11.
Constable (0 points across 1 game) remained a development player for the remainder of the season and did not make another NBL appearance.
Gliddon (13.5 points and 4.3 rebounds across 28 games) led Cairns in scoring and won the club’s Most Valuable Player award, while Starks (12.5 points across 26 games), Craig (11.6 points and 6.1 rebounds across 28 games) and Worthington (11.3 points and 4.8 rebounds across 28 games) provided the other major contributions. Craig received the Members’ Choice MVP award and Worthington was named Cairns’ Best Defensive Player.
Constable remained outside the lineup as Cairns closed the season in Townsville on February 11, where Gliddon (16 points) and Weigh (14 points and 5 rebounds) led the Taipans, while Omar Samhan (14 points and 8 rebounds) led the Crocodiles to an 85-68 victory, leaving Cairns sixth with a 12-16 record.

STATE LEAGUE EXPERIENCE
- Ballarat (2013–2014, 2016–2017)
Constable joined Ballarat for the 2013 SEABL season, moving into the Miners senior team after coming through the Ballarat pathway from Horsham. The 7 July 1993-born guard continued with Ballarat in 2014 and was part of a Miners group that produced one of its strongest road weekends of the season when he scored all eight of his points in the fourth quarter of a 92–89 comeback win over North West Tasmania.
Constable returned to Ballarat for the 2016 SEABL season and was appointed co-captain as the Miners brought him back into their senior rotation. He averaged six points and two rebounds that season, with his best SEABL scoring game coming against the Melbourne Tigers when he finished with 21 points in just over 23 minutes.
Ballarat retained Constable for the 2017 SEABL season, with the point guard recommitting to the Miners ahead of their March 31 season opener against Geelong. He entered the year as Ballarat’s vice-captain and reached his 100th SEABL game late in the regular season as the Miners pushed toward the top of the South Conference.
The Miners finished first in the SEABL South Conference regular-season standings in 2017 after an 11-point win over the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence. Ballarat’s finals run ended in the South Conference decider, where the Miners lost to Dandenong by eight points in overtime.
