Andrew “A.J.” Ogilvy has signed with the German Bundesliga most successful team, the Brose Baskets Bamberg. Brose Baskets are the most successful team in Germany. The team features Stanford grad and former NBA player Casey Jacobsen and has won five German League titles since 2005, including having won the past three titles in a row.
The also club has a unique Australian flavour to it with both Mark Worthington and Luke Schenscher having played there also in recent years.
24 year old Ogilvy played for Spanish club Valencia Basket in Spain where he was team mates with Aussie Brad Newley who also left the team this week, signing with Spanish club Gran Canaria. Ogilvy enjoyed a reasonably successful season with Valencia Basketbal last year who compiled a 20-14 record before being eliminated by FC Barcelona, a team featuring Australian Boomers team mate Joe Ingles, which then went on to win the ACB Championship.
AJ Ogilvy averaged 4.8 ppg and 2.3 rpg in the Spanish National League and averaged 9.8 ppg and 3.3 rpg throughout the EuroCup competition for Valenica. Valenica were defeated in the EuroCup Championship by BC Khimky which featured captain of the Australian Boomers Matt Nielsen on the roster.
In 2010/11 Ogilvy played a season for Besiktas Cola Turka in the Turkish Basketball league where he averaged 12.9 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.1 blocks and was a team mate of former NBA MVP Allen Iverson.
Andrew Ogilvy originally signed a two-year deal with Valenica Basket in 2011 which had a player option for 2012/13 but instead chose to play in Germany. He has an Australian/Irish citizenship allowing him to play as a local player.
