STATE LEAGUE EXPERIENCE

  • Gold Coast (2017)

Craig joined Gold Coast for the 2017 QBL season, giving the Rollers a high-scoring wing after his 2016–17 professional season. The Columbia, South Carolina native, born on 19 December 1990, moved into the Queensland competition after playing college basketball at USC Upstate from 2010 to 2014, and his Gold Coast stint became his only Australian state league stop.

Craig quickly became one of the Rollers’ leading offensive players in 2017, scoring 30 points or more five times and producing two 40-point games. He was named QBL Player of the Week for Round 3 and finished his 10-game Gold Coast stint averaging 28.2 points, 9.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per game.

NBA EXPERIENCE

In June 2017, Craig returned to the United States to join the Denver Nuggets for NBA Summer League. On July 19, 2017, he signed a two-way contract with the Nuggets. Craig made his NBA debut on November 28, 2017, in the Nuggets 106–77 loss to the Utah Jazz, joining Mike Gibson as the only players in Upstate history to play in an NBA game.

Craig made his first career start on December 15, 2017, against the New Orleans Pelicans, scoring six points in a 117–111 overtime win. Three days later, he scored a season-high 14 points in a 95–94 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

On July 10, 2018, Craig signed a two-year, $4 million contract with the Nuggets. On February 1, 2019, he scored a then career-high 22 points in a 136–122 win over the Houston Rockets. In game four of the Nuggets first-round playoff series against the San Antonio Spurs, Craig scored 18 points with five 3-pointers in a 117–103 win.

On March 1, 2020, Craig scored a season-high 17 points against the Toronto Raptors. In the COVID affected 2019–20 NBA season, Craig averaged 5.4 points and 3.3 rebounds during the regular season and once again proved his worth while defending some of the NBAs best wings, including Donovan Mitchell, Paul George and Lebron James during the postseason.

On November 26, 2020, Craig signed with the Milwaukee Bucks.

On March 18, 2021, Craig was traded to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for cash considerations. On April 25, 2021, he had 20 points and 14 rebounds off the bench against the Brooklyn Nets. In the 2021 NBA Finals against his former team the Milwaukee Bucks, he averaged 2.8 points and 1.3 rebounds across the six games. The Suns lost the series 4–2.

On August 20, 2021, Craig signed with the Indiana Pacers. On October 29, 2021, he scored a career-high 28 points, to go with 11 rebounds, in a loss to the Brooklyn Nets.

On February 10, 2022, Craig was traded back to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for Jalen Smith and a 2022 second-round draft pick.

INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • New Zealand - Wellington (2015-2016)

In 2015, Torrey Craig joined the Wellington Saints in New Zealand and averaged 20.4 points, 9.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game, adding 1.0 steals and 1.2 blocks in 17 appearances, and during the season he played alongside Lindsay Tait, Leon Henry, Damien Ekenasio and Nick Horvath.

That 2015 run included a 41-point game against the Taranaki Mountainairs on April 17, Round 3 Player of the Week honours after a 25-point, 14-rebound effort against the Southland Sharks on April 18, and another Player of the Week award in Round 11, before a knee injury sidelined him late in the regular season and the Saints went on to the Grand Final where they lost 72–68 to the Sharks, with Craig named the NZNBL MVP and selected in the league’s All-Star Five.

Craig returned to the Saints in 2016 and averaged 20.9 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game with 1.3 steals across all 20 games, sharing the roster with Tai Wesley, Shea Ili and Leon Henry, earning two Player of the Week awards, and helping the Saints win the championship by defeating the Super City Rangers 94–82 in the Grand Final with Craig scoring 15 points, while Wesley took Finals MVP and Craig was again named to the All-Star Five.

COLLEGE

Torrey Craig played his full NCAA career at USC Upstate from 2010–2014, developing into one of the program’s most productive Division I-era players while starring under head coach Eddie Payne.

As a freshman in 2010-11, Craig appeared in all 30 games (26 starts) for a USC Upstate team that finished 5–25 overall (4–16 in Atlantic Sun play), and he earned Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year honors after averaging 14.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game while adding 431 total points, 216 total rebounds, 68 made threes, and five double-doubles.

In his sophomore season (2011-12), Craig started 33 of 34 games and helped USC Upstate to a 21–13 record (13–5 Atlantic Sun), leading the conference in scoring at 16.4 points per game while averaging 7.7 rebounds, earning Atlantic Sun Player of the Year recognition and an AP honorable mention All-American nod, and finishing the year with 559 points, 263 rebounds, 83 made three-pointers, 37 blocks, and eight double-doubles while also being named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week three times.

As a junior in 2012-13, Craig played 33 games (32 starts) for a 16–17 USC Upstate squad (9–9 Atlantic Sun) and became the second player in Atlantic Sun history to lead the league in scoring in back-to-back seasons, finishing at 17.2 points per game with 7.0 rebounds per game, a 78-for-214 mark from three (36.4%), and 103-for-144 at the line (71.5%), while collecting seven double-doubles and adding multiple end-of-season honors that included All-Atlantic Sun first team selection and all-tournament recognition at the conference tournament.

In his senior year (2013-14), Craig started all 34 games and averaged 16.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists as USC Upstate went 19–15 overall (11–7 Atlantic Sun) and reached the Atlantic Sun tournament semifinals before losing to Mercer, then moved into postseason play in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament where the Spartans fell 63–60 to Towson on March 19, 2014, a game in which Craig posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

During that 2013-14 season, USC Upstate scored 2,492 total points across 34 games (73.3 per game) and allowed 2,282 (67.1 per game), while Craig’s year included a major milestone on February 10, 2014 when he scored 22 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in a 75–63 win over East Tennessee State to reach 2,000 career points, becoming just the seventh player in Atlantic Sun history to hit that mark.

Across his four seasons at USC Upstate, Craig finished ranked second in program history in points (2,128) while setting school records for rebounds (944) and three-pointers made (297), with additional career totals and rankings that included 747 made field goals, 338 made free throws, 101 blocks, and 138 steals, and his documented career single-game highs at Upstate included 31 points vs UT-San Antonio (12/08/12), 15 rebounds vs East Tennessee State (12/05/10), eight made threes vs Florida Gulf Coast (02/23/12), seven assists vs Stetson (01/08/11), and five steals vs Kent State (03/15/12).
