BIO: Brad Robbins was born in Melbourne (VIC) and began playing basketball as a junior with the Dandenong basketball program. He represented Victoria in national competitions in Under 14s in 1998, Under 16s in 2000, and Under 18s in 2001 and 2002.

NBL EXPERIENCE

Brad Robbins made his NBL debut with the Victoria Giants at 18 years of age. He went scoreless in his first NBL game.

During the 2009/10 season Robbins averaged 4.5 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assist and helped guide the Wildcat’s to a first place finish (17-11) in the regular season. The Wildcats defeated the fourth placed Gold Coast Blaze in two straight games. Robbins adding 6 points in game one (81-68) but went scoreless in game two (82-78), helping the team reach the NBL Grand Final where they would face the Wollongong Hawks.

Perth claimed game one comfortably with a 75–64 win at home with Robbins contributing 5 points. The series then moved to Wollongong for game two, where the Hawks returned the favour, defeating Perth 75–63 with Robbins struggling offensively and failing to score in 15 minutes of court time. The Wildcats returned home for the third and deciding game where Robbins delivered his best postseason performance, scoring 6 points and adding 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals to the box score as well. Perth comfortably defeated Wollongong 96–72 and Wildcats star guard Kevin Lisch was named Finals MVP after averaging 18 points and 4 rebounds over the three game series.

Brad Robbins played nine seasons across three NBL teams. This included the Victoria Giants, Cairns Taipans and Perth Wildcats. He averaged 4.4 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 215 NBL games.

STATE LEAGUE EXPERIENCE

Robbins joined Dandenong for the 2001 SEABL season, playing one game in his first state league stint.

Dandenong added Robbins again for the 2003 SEABL season, and he became a regular member of the Rangers’ squad across 21 games.

Robbins joined Knox for the 2004 SEABL season and won the ABA Youth Player of the Year honour in 2004, with the award also recognised through the SEABL South Conference Youth Player of the Year category.

Knox retained Robbins for the 2005 SEABL season, and he again won the SEABL South Conference Youth Player of the Year award, giving him back-to-back youth honours with the Raiders.

Robbins joined Willetton for the 2006 SBL season, and the Tigers finished first on the men’s ladder at 21–3 before defeating Wanneroo 2–0 in the quarter-finals and losing 2–0 to Lakeside in the semi-finals.

Willetton kept Robbins for the 2007 SBL season, with the Tigers finishing third at 16–8 before Cockburn eliminated them 2–0 in the quarter-finals.

Robbins joined Wanneroo for the 2011 SBL season and helped the Wolves win the championship, with Wanneroo defeating Perry Lakes 88–83 in the men’s Grand Final.

Wanneroo retained Robbins for the 2012 SBL season, and he returned to the Wolves during the season with seven points, six assists and four steals in a 93–90 win over Lakeside before scoring seven points in a 133–97 win over Rockingham as Wanneroo moved to 12–2 and equal top of the men’s SBL table.

Robbins continued with Wanneroo in the 2013 SBL season and helped the Wolves reach another Grand Final, where Lakeside defeated Wanneroo 77–74.

Robbins joined Joondalup for the 2015 SBL season, returning to the Wolves for a short stint after not playing in 2014, with Joondalup going on to win the men’s championship by defeating South West 105–75 in the Grand Final.

Robbins joined Rockingham for the 2019 SBL season after coming out of retirement, with former Perth teammate Greg Hire part of the same Flames group and Ryan Petrik coaching the men’s team.

Rockingham’s 2019 season was delayed for Robbins by pre-season hamstring injuries before he made his Flames debut in round nine, when Rockingham defeated Perry Lakes by 24 points in a game that also featured Shawn Redhage’s first appearance for the Hawks.

Robbins’ final playing stint ended after an Achilles injury, and he finished the 2019 SBL season with Rockingham averaging 5.25 points, 2.75 rebounds and 2.33 assists across 12 games.

FIBA EXPERIENCE

In 2002, Robbins was a member of the Australian team at the Albert Schweitzer Tournament and the Oceania Junior Mens Qualification Tournament.

Then in 2003, he was part of the history-making, gold medal-winning Australian Emus Under 19 team that included the likes of Andrew Bogut, Damian Martin and Matthew Knight, and coached by Rob Beveridge.
