NBL EXPERIENCE

Christian D’Angelo made his NBL debut with the Melbourne United on 1/10/2026. He went scoreless in his first NBL game.

Melbourne United entered NBL27 under new head coach Jacob Chance, with experienced guards Chris Goulding, Shea Ili, Sean Macdonald and Tom Wilson remaining alongside forwards Luke Travers, Kyle Bowen, Malith Machar and Sam Waardenburg. The club added former NBA players Joe Ingles and Cole Anthony, centre Josh Oduro, Fabijan Krslovic and a group of development players including Christian D’Angelo, Jensen Bradtke, Will Hynes and Austin Shelley.

On April 23, 2026, Melbourne United formally announced D’Angelo’s development-player signing after he had spent NBL26 training with the club. The 22-year-old guard had already been recognised as the 2025 NBL1 South Youth Player of the Year at Nunawading Spectres and had impressed during preseason work against senior NBL opposition. He spoke about learning from the club’s established professionals and said that he had become more confident after a season as a training player.

D’Angelo continued playing for the Nunawading Spectres through the 2026 NBL1 South finals while preparing for his first NBL campaign. Nunawading qualified third after finishing the regular season 16–6 and reached the preliminary final before losing 91–89 away to Eltham Wildcats on August 8. D’Angelo (8 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists) played in the defeat, following his 31-point, 7-assist display against Keilor Thunder a week earlier.

On September 19, Melbourne opened the NBL27 season with a 97–95 home loss to Adelaide at John Cain Arena. Cole Anthony (30 points) led United while Bryce Cotton’s 36ers held on after Melbourne missed several chances to win the game in the final seconds. D’Angelo was named on the bench but did not play.

On September 24, Melbourne defeated South East Melbourne 86–61 in Throwdown 33 at John Cain Arena for its first win of the season. The result held the Phoenix to just 61 points and evened United’s record at 1–1; D’Angelo was not part of the playing squad.

On October 1, Melbourne suffered an 84–82 road loss to Tasmania at MyState Bank Arena in Hobart. Christian D’Angelo played 2 minutes and 22 seconds off the bench in his first NBL appearance, recording no points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks or shot attempts, and finishing with a minus-one plus-minus. Cole Anthony, Joe Ingles and Josh Oduro were among Melbourne’s senior contributors as United tried to overcome a double-digit deficit before narrowly losing.

On October 3, Melbourne lost 107–95 to Cairns at John Cain Arena despite Cole Anthony recording 40 points, the highest individual total in the NBL27 season to that point. United led 81–72 entering the final quarter, but Cairns scored 35 points to Melbourne’s 14 in the last period. D’Angelo remained an unused bench player.

On October 7, Melbourne defeated Adelaide 96–91 at Adelaide Entertainment Centre in the clubs’ second meeting of the season. United built a lead behind Cole Anthony, Josh Oduro, Luke Travers and Malith Machar before a late Adelaide rally, and Anthony made a crucial three-pointer with around one minute remaining to secure the Ignite Cup road victory. D’Angelo did not appear in the playing rotation.

On October 10, Melbourne came from 15 points down to defeat South East Melbourne 104–99 at John Cain Arena in Throwdown 34. Luke Travers (24 points) led United, with Josh Oduro recording a double-double and Cole Anthony (18 points and 7 assists) making important defensive plays in the final minutes. Nathan Sobey (24 points), D’Shawn Schwartz (19 points) and Skylar Mays (15 points) contributed for the Phoenix. D’Angelo was not named in Melbourne’s playing squad.

Melbourne held a 3–3 record through October 10. D’Angelo had made one regular-season NBL appearance through October 10, scoring 0 points in 2 minutes and 22 seconds against Tasmania on October 1.

Christian D’Angelo played in one NBL game during the 2026-27 season, scoring 0 points, 0 rebounds, and 0 assists.
