NBL EXPERIENCE
Dan Krebs made his NBL debut with the Hobart Devils on 30/3/1990. He scored 13 points in his first game.
Hobart promised much the previous season but delivered little. The Devils had three different coaches in the first five weeks but entered the 1990 season retaining Tom Maher, coach No.3 in 1989.
Changes to the roster included Gordie McLeod retiring, amid threats of suing the club and Joe Hurst, NBL MVP in 1988, being released to make way for hard-working Devonport SEABL import Dan Krebs.
After two dominant seasons in the state league, the play of Krebs attracted the attention of several NBL team’s, with Hobart Tassie Devils coach Tom Maher recruiting Krebs to replace former league MVP and fan favourite Jumpin’ Joe Hurst for the 1990 season.
Krebs (25.3 points, 12.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 2.3 steals) led the Devils in scoring, but again Hobart finished at the bottom of the NBL ladder, finishing with a 8-18 record.
SOUTHERN MELBOURNE SAINTS
1991
Dan Krebs, who was playing for Hobart in 1990, left the team under the impression he was going to be replaced by a new import for 1991. Krebs signed instead with a team in Grindavik, Iceland but appeared in a one cameo for the Saints, scoring 28 points on his way out.
Later, Krebs returned to Australia and became a citizen in 2000.
Dan Krebs played two seasons in the NBL, playing for both the Hobart Devils and the Southern Melbourne Saints. He averaged 25.4 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 27 NBL games.
