COLLEGE

Maxey played college basketball at Providence during the 1997–98 season and competed for the Friars from 1997 to 2001, completing a four-year NCAA Division I career in the Big East Conference.

In the 1997–98 season, Providence finished 21–11 overall and 12–6 in Big East play under head coach Pete Gillen, earning an NCAA Tournament berth, and Maxey appeared in 29 games as a freshman, averaging 3.0 points and 2.0 rebounds per game while providing frontcourt depth off the bench.

During that freshman campaign he recorded multiple double-figure scoring outings, including a season-high performance in conference play, while establishing himself as an efficient interior finisher and shot-blocking presence in limited minutes.

In 1998–99, Providence posted a 20–13 overall record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, and Maxey played in 30 games, increasing his role in the rotation and averaging 6.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting above 50 percent from the field.

Across that sophomore season he delivered several double-digit scoring games and showed improvement as a rebounder on both ends of the floor, contributing key minutes in Big East competition and postseason play.

In the 1999–2000 season, Providence finished 15–15 overall, and Maxey emerged as a regular starter, appearing in 29 games and averaging 10.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while again shooting better than 50 percent from the field.

He recorded multiple double-doubles during his junior campaign and ranked among the team leaders in rebounds, while also contributing defensively with blocked shots and interior presence against conference opponents.

As a senior in 2000–01, Providence finished 21–10 overall and returned to the NCAA Tournament, and Maxey started all 31 games, averaging 15.1 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while leading the Friars in rebounding and ranking among the team’s top scorers.

During that final season he produced numerous double-doubles, surpassed the 20-point mark multiple times, and established himself as one of the top frontcourt players in the Big East, finishing his senior year with career-best averages in both scoring and rebounding.

Over his four-year Providence career, Maxey appeared in more than 115 games and scored over 1,000 career points, finishing with career averages that reflected steady year-to-year growth in scoring, rebounding, and overall impact.
