BIO: Born in Las Vegas, Nevada, Felix played high school basketball at Millennium High School in Goodyear, Arizona. During his senior season at Millennium, Felix led his team to a state championship and was named MVP of the state championship. As a senior in 2007/08, he averaged 19.7 points, 13.2 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game.

Felix played college basketball at College of Southern Idaho, where he redshirted the 2008/09 season for medical reasons, before transferring to Arizona State, where he competed from 2010 to 2013.
After receiving a medical redshirt at College of Southern Idaho in 2008/09, Felix returned in 2009/10 and averaged 14.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game while appearing in 31 games and logging 851 minutes (27.5 minutes per game).
In that 2009/10 season for CSI, he totaled 458 points, made 24 three-pointers on 74 attempts (32.4%), and went 128-for-184 at the free-throw line (69.6%), while adding 146 rebounds, 46 assists, 38 steals, 37 blocks, and 95 turnovers; Southern Idaho finished 20–12 overall and 11–9 in conference play under head coach Steve Gosar, scoring 2,640 points across 32 games (82.3 per game) while allowing 2,444 (76.2 per game).
Felix’s 2009/10 game highs for CSI included 27 points (at least once), 23 points multiple times, and a best rebounding game of 12 boards against Seward County CC on November 14, 2009, while the season’s category leader tables listed him second on the team in total points (458) and points per game (14.8), along with team-leading 37 blocked shots (1.2 per game).
Felix joined Arizona State for the 2010/11 season and, during his first year with the Sun Devils, he made appearances in 30 of the team’s 31 games, averaging 14.5 minutes and 4.6 points and 1.6 rebounds per game while shooting 39.1% from the field, 20.5% from three, and 75.0% at the line; Arizona State went 12–19 overall (4–14 in Pac-10 play) and lost to Oregon in the first round of the Pac-10 tournament under head coach Herb Sendek.
In his second season at Arizona State, he saw a increase in minutes up from 14.5 the previous season to 32.9 per game, and he subsequently averaged 10.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game as the Sun Devils finished 10–21 overall (6–12 in Pac-12 play) and lost to Stanford in the first round of the Pac-12 tournament.
In his third and final year at Arizona State, Felix averaged 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game while leading the Pac-12 with 13 double-doubles, including nine in 18 conference regular-season games, and he was second in the league in conference minutes at 37.7 per game; he was named second-team All-Pac-12, made the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team, was selected as the Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year, and earned first-team All-Pac-12 Academic Team honours, while also winning Pac-12 Player of the Week three times (for the weeks of Nov. 26–Dec. 2, Dec. 31–Jan. 6, and Jan. 21–27).
During that 2012/13 season, Felix produced notable stat lines that included 17 points and 13 rebounds in a 55–54 overtime win over Utah, 23 points and 11 rebounds against UCLA (Jan. 26), 23 points and 11 rebounds against Washington State (Feb. 20), and 23 points with 8 rebounds, 5 made threes, 3 assists, and 3 blocks in a 89–86 loss at Baylor in the NIT on March 22, 2013, as Arizona State finished 22–13 overall and reached the second round of the tournament.
