INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE

Brannen joined Atléticos de San Germán for the 2005–06 Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) season, playing his first season in Puerto Rico, and he finished the year as the league’s scoring champion with a 21.3 points per game average.

Brannen moved to the Criollos de Caguas for the 2006 BSN season and was described locally as a key piece in the club’s 2006 championship run, and he ranked among the league’s leading scorers that season at 21.8 points per game.

During his Caguas tenure, he featured in multiple FIBA-reported BSN results, including a 20-point contribution in a 113–82 win where Omar Alvarado led the scoring, a 17-point game in the round-robin phase as Peter John Ramos posted 28 in another Criollos win, and a 24-point performance in a playoff semi-final victory under coach Leonel Arill.

After a 2007 season in which he averaged 11.45 points and 7.1 rebounds per game, Brannen returned as Caguas’ import for a third consecutive year after agreeing terms in January 2008.

Brannen also played in South Korea, joining the Daegu Orions for the 2007–08 Korean Basketball League season, where the club’s foreign-player changes during the season included Brannen and Leon Trimingham as the Orions’ two imports, with reporting around the league’s season opening dated October 17, 2007 describing the Orions’ updated foreign-player pairing.

He later spent the 2008–09 season in Poland with PBG Basket Poznań in the PLK, appearing in box-score reports alongside teammates such as Marcin Flieger, Alex McLeane, Rafał Bigus, Joel Jones, Wojciech Szawarski and Miah Davis, including one league game where he scored 12 points in an 82–97 loss to Polpharma Starogard Gdański, and across his PLK season he appeared in 20 games and averaged 9.2 points in 19 minutes per game.

COLLEGE

Brannen played college basketball at Cincinnati during the 1997–98 season and competed with the Bearcats from 1997 to 2001 under head coach Bob Huggins in Conference USA.

As a freshman in 1997–98, Brannen appeared in 33 games for a Cincinnati team that finished 27–6 overall and 13–3 in Conference USA play, averaging 4.1 points per game while contributing off the bench on a roster that included Kenyon Martin, Danny Fortson and Ruben Patterson.

In 1998–99, Brannen played in 32 games as Cincinnati went 27–6 overall and 14–2 in Conference USA, averaging 6.7 points per game and shooting over 40 percent from three-point range, helping the Bearcats earn a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament before advancing to the Round of 32.

During the 1999–2000 season, Brannen played in 32 games and averaged 9.8 points per game for a Cincinnati team that finished 29–4 overall and 14–2 in Conference USA, earned a No. 1 national ranking during the season, and entered the NCAA Tournament as a No. 2 seed before a second-round loss.

In that 1999–2000 campaign, he connected on 47 three-pointers and ranked among the team leaders in perimeter shooting, contributing to a Bearcats offense that averaged over 76 points per game while also defending at one of the nation’s top defensive efficiency levels.

As a senior in 2000–01, Brannen started 31 of 31 games for Cincinnati, averaging 12.3 points per game while shooting 41.8 percent from three-point range and helping the Bearcats post a 25–10 overall record and 11–5 mark in Conference USA.

In the 2000–01 NCAA Tournament, Cincinnati advanced to the Sweet 16, with Brannen contributing double-digit scoring performances during postseason play as the Bearcats defeated Brigham Young and Illinois before falling to UCLA.

Across his four-year Cincinnati career, Brannen played in 128 games, starting 31 contests, and totaled 1,037 career points while finishing as one of the program’s notable perimeter shooters during the late 1990s and early 2000s era.

He graduated from the University of Cincinnati prior to 2001, concluding his NCAA Division I collegiate career with the Bearcats.
