NBL EXPERIENCE
Lloyd McVeigh made his NBL debut with the Cairns Taipans on 30/12/1899. He scored five points in his first game.
After finishing last with an 8-21 record in NBL25, Cairns initially parted ways with Adam Forde before reappointing him as head coach. Rob Edwards (to Jiangsu), Taran Armstrong (to Golden State), Tanner Groves (to Saga), Pedro Bradshaw (to Rostock), Akoldah Gak, Jonah Antonio, Jackson Makoi, Deshon Taylor, Tad Dufelmeier Jr and Dillon Stith exited, while Sam Waardenburg, Kyrin Galloway, Kyle Adnam, Kody Stattmann and Alex Higgins-Titsha returned, with Stattmann and Higgins-Titsha elevated from development-player status. Forde added Jack McVeigh (via Houston), Admiral Schofield (via Lyon), Marcus Lee (via Melbourne), Reyne Smith (via Louisville), Mawot Mag (via BYU), Lloyd McVeigh (via South Adelaide) and Jed Richardson (via Northside), while Lachlan Barker (via Tasmania) was added as a nominated replacement player for the injured Waardenburg. Ashton Hagans (via Xinjiang) was initially signed before visa complications prevented him joining, with Andrew Andrews (via Vilnius) replacing him before the season.
McVeigh signed a one-year development-player deal after averaging 16.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists for South Adelaide during the 2025 NBL1 Central season. The younger brother of Jack McVeigh joined his first NBL team after appearing in 46 games across two seasons with Buffalo, having caught Forde’s attention during Cairns’ pre-season games.
Cairns opened the season at John Cain Arena on September 20, where McVeigh (5 points and 1 rebound) made both field-goal attempts and his only free throw in 3:59 during his NBL debut, but South East Melbourne defeated the Taipans 114-77. Smith (19 points and 6 rebounds) and Jack McVeigh (18 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists) led Cairns, while John Brown III (14 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 6 steals) set the tone for the Phoenix.
McVeigh (1.4 points and 1 rebound across 9 games) appeared entirely from the bench and remained at the end of Cairns’ rotation, but the club’s extensive injury list repeatedly elevated him into the active lineup. He provided cover across the backcourt and wing during the middle and final stages of the season, gaining his first professional experience while training and playing alongside his older brother.
Mojave King (11.2 points and 4.4 rebounds across 22 games) returned during the season as an injury replacement after a season-ending wrist injury opened a roster spot, while Kian Dennis (0 points across 1 game) was added as temporary cover during the Taipans’ injury crisis.
Jack McVeigh (21.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 4 assists across 29 games) and Andrews (14.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 7.6 assists across 31 games) led Cairns offensively, while Waardenburg (15.5 points and 5.4 rebounds across 8 games) was restricted by injury. Smith (9.9 points across 14 games), Schofield (8.8 points and 4.3 rebounds across 30 games), Galloway (7.6 points and 4.6 rebounds across 33 games), Lee (6.8 points and 5.4 rebounds across 33 games), Stattmann (6.6 points across 23 games) and Higgins-Titsha (6.3 points and 4.6 rebounds across 9 games) were the other main contributors. Jack McVeigh earned All-NBL Second Team honours and was named club MVP and Members’ Choice MVP, Andrews received the Players’ Player award and Galloway was named Defensive Player of the Year.
Cairns finished ninth with a 9-24 record and missed the postseason. McVeigh (6 points and 2 rebounds) delivered his best scoring game in the Taipans’ final match at Eventfinda Stadium on February 19, making his only field goal and all four free throws in 7:50 as New Zealand won 115-84, with Andrews (24 points and 7 assists) and Stattmann (20 points and 5 rebounds) leading Cairns while Mennenga (32 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists) led the Breakers.

STATE LEAGUE EXPERIENCE

McVeigh joined the Gold Coast Rollers for the 2021 NBL1 North season and made his first senior state league impact as a 17-year-old development player, averaging 5.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in just over 10 minutes a game, while also creating the assist on Jaryd Eustace’s late winning three in Gold Coast’s 74–73 opening-round win over Ipswich.
McVeigh joined the North Gold Coast Seahawks for the 2022 NBL1 North season after his first year with the Rollers, and he went into that move with 13 appearances from 2021 already behind him as a spark off the bench.
McVeigh joined the South Adelaide Panthers for the 2023 NBL1 Central season and quickly emerged as one of the league’s breakout young wings, earning Foot Locker Player of the Week honours after a 32-point, 10-rebound performance against West Adelaide. During that season he averaged 15.8 points and 5.5 rebounds for the Panthers, helped South Adelaide begin 3-0, and later produced 29 points against the Eastern Mavericks.
McVeigh rejoined South Adelaide for the 2025 NBL1 Central season and averaged 16.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists. His best scoring game came with 36 points, eight rebounds and five assists in a win over Norwood, a performance that earned him NBL1 Central Player of the Week, and he also posted 24 points and 12 rebounds against Sturt, 22 points and 14 rebounds against Woodville, and 18 points with four assists against Forestville. South Adelaide’s finals run ended in the elimination final against West Adelaide, where McVeigh finished with 19 points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal.
McVeigh returned to South Adelaide for the 2026 NBL1 Central season and opened the year with 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting in the Panthers’ first game.
