As a key offseason signing, Cummings was brought in to strengthen the backcourt and provide scoring and playmaking for a team looking to rebound from a challenging NBL23 campaign.

Early in the season, his performances were instrumental in helping the Phoenix secure a 5-2 record by Round 5, including a narrow 103–100 victory over New Zealand. However, his tenure with the team was overshadowed by off-court issues. Despite multiple warnings, disciplinary concerns ultimately led to the Phoenix releasing Cummings mid-season, significantly disrupting their rotation.
Cummings’ departure marked a turning point for the Phoenix, who struggled to regain their early momentum. While his on-court contributions showed promise, his exit highlighted the challenges the team faced in maintaining consistency throughout a turbulent campaign.
