Lane joined the Otago Nuggets for the 2001 New Zealand NBL season, playing his first season in New Zealand, and he finished the regular season as the league’s steals leader at 3.0 per game.

Lane’s Otago team finished 9th with a 3–13 record in a 16-game regular season, and during the same year Nuggets guard Hayden Allen was named to the competition’s All-Star Five.

COLLEGE

Lane played college basketball at Lander during the 1998–99 season and competed with the Bearcats from 1998 to 2002 under head coach Mike Gillespie.

In the 1998–99 season, Lander finished 19–9 overall and 8–6 in Peach Belt Conference play, and Lane appeared in 27 games, totaling 164 points (6.1 per game) while shooting 58-for-122 from the field (47.5%) and 48-for-72 at the free-throw line (66.7%), along with 79 rebounds (2.9 per game), 24 assists, 11 steals, and 8 blocks across 514 total minutes (19.0 per game).

During the 1999–2000 campaign, Lander posted a 21–8 overall record and 10–4 conference mark, and Lane played 29 games, scoring 238 total points (8.2 per game) on 86-for-177 shooting (48.6%), going 1-for-6 from three-point range (16.7%), and converting 65-of-93 free throws (69.9%), while recording 121 rebounds (4.2 per game), 36 assists, 18 steals, and 15 blocks in 667 minutes (23.0 per game).

In the 2000–01 season, Lander finished 20–9 overall and 9–5 in conference competition, and Lane appeared in 28 games with 16 starts, totaling 312 points (11.1 per game) while shooting 117-for-233 from the field (50.2%), 2-for-11 from three-point range (18.2%), and 76-of-109 from the free-throw line (69.7%), while adding 158 rebounds (5.6 per game), 42 assists, 23 steals, and 19 blocks across 784 minutes (28.0 per game).

In his senior season of 2001–02, Lander compiled a 28–6 overall record and 12–2 conference mark, advancing through the NCAA Division II Tournament and capturing the 2002 NCAA Division II National Championship, and Lane appeared in 33 games with 32 starts, scoring 451 total points (13.7 per game) on 163-for-318 shooting (51.3%), 4-for-14 from three-point range (28.6%), and 121-of-169 from the free-throw line (71.6%), while collecting 212 rebounds (6.4 per game), 58 assists, 29 steals, and 24 blocks in 986 total minutes (29.9 per game).

Across his four-year collegiate career at Lander, Lane totaled 1,165 points (9.8 per game), 570 rebounds (4.8 per game), 160 assists, 81 steals, and 66 blocks while shooting 424-for-850 from the field (49.9%), 7-for-31 from three-point range (22.6%), and 310-of-443 from the free-throw line (70.0%), appearing in 117 games and starting 48 of them prior to completing his eligibility and graduating prior to 2003.
