The SEABL Final Four has been decided after this weekend’s games with both the men and women moving into preliminary finals next week.

 

Games will be played across two states in Nunawading (VIC), Kilsyth (VIC), Launceston (TAS) and Hobart (TAS).

 

Men’s Semi Final 1: Ballarat Miners 65 – 90 Geelong Supercats

 

 

In the men’s division the Geelong Supercats came home Ballarat with a 25 point victory against the Miners. Two of Melbourne United’s backcourt stars put on solid performances, for Ballarat with Peter Hooley finishing the game with 17 points and 6 rebounds and Sam Short adding 9 points.

 

It wouldn’t be enough however as the Supercats bulldozed the Miners at home thanks to 22 points and 10 rebounds from import DeMarcus Gatlin and 20 points from Nathan Herbert.

Men’s Semi Final 2: Kilsyth Cobras 111 – 88 Bendigo Braves

 

Kilsyth Cobras made light work of the Bendigo Braves, Kilsyth won each quarter and were never really challenged in this contest, capitalising with a 23 point win. The Cobra’s rolled through to the Preliminary Final behind a star studded line-up, import Isaac Turner delivered a game high 30 points, former Cairns Taipans and Melbourne United star Chris Patton added 20 points and young Sydney Kings tyro Dane Pineau contributed 10 points and 9 rebounds to round out the box score.

Women’s Semi Final 1: Bendigo Lady Braves 99 – 74 Geelong Supercats

 

In contrast to the Bendigo Men’s squad, the Lady Braves were able to rebound from losing their first game of the season last week with a 25 point home victory over the Geelong Supercats. Ashleigh Karaitiana (27 points and eight rebounds) and Gabe Richards (25 points and 16 rebounds) led the charge for the Lady Braves who won three of the four quarters comfortably. With the squad having lost only one game all season the Lady Braves are favourite to come home with another SEABL championship.

Women’s Semi Final 2: Nunawading Spectres 76 – 54 Melbourne Tigers

 

In the last game of the semi-finals, the Nunawading Spectres defeated the Melbourne Tigers behind some gritty defence. Melbourne couldn’t break through the Spectres defence, in both the second and fourth quarters the Tigers were unable to score more than 10 points. Marena Whittle was the star for Nunawading behind a 24 point effort, ending the season for Tigers Women. Both the Spectres men and women moving onto the SEABL preliminary finals next week.

The SEABL final four are confirmed. Nunawading, Kilsyth Cobras, Launceston Tornadoes and Hobart_Chargers are all hosting home preliminary finals next week across both the men’s and women’s competition.
