Earlier this month, Corey Webster was given permission from the New Zealand Breakers to pursue other opportunities, with the team deciding to inject a nice dose of youth into the team’s backcourt by re-signing young point guards Tai Webster and William McDowell-White.
With next season looking like a smaller bench role with the Breakers, Webster engaged in discussions with multiple NBL teams including the Brisbane Bullets and Perth Wildcats but has instead opted to sign with Al Ittihad Elsakandry who play in the Egyptian Basketball Premier League.

Webster has played 11 NBL seasons, all with the New Zealand Breakers averaging 11 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists over 238 games.
Webster previously left the Breakers in 2019-20 where after a break-out year averaging 19.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists he was offered a lucrative deal to play in China.
He averaged 18.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists for the Guangsha Lions in 7 Chinese CBL games. He then returned to the Breakers for the 2020-21 season, a year marred by Covid-19 difficulties that resulted in the team playing on the road for five months, which saw his productivity drop dramatically from this 2019-20 form. His scoring dropped from 19.5 points to 13.4 points and his minutes from 30.8 minutes to 25.9 minutes per game.
Al Ittihad is widely considered to be the basketball powerhouse of Egypt, having won a league-best 13 championships. The team fell one win short last season however, falling to Zamalek in the finals of the Egyptian playoffs, recruiting Webster is a move that the team is hoping will lead to reclaiming the national league title.
