Australia, October 2018: In what is believed to be a world-first, MG Motor Australia has partnered with the NBL to reveal an octagonal shaped key on court.
The keyway on the NBL basketball court traditionally features a circle shape, however for 28 games throughout the 2018/2019 Hungry Jack’s NBL season, the key will be transformed into the signature MG Motor octagon.
The octagonal key debuted during the season tip-off in New Zealand on Thursday 11 October, and was also seen at the weekend’s much anticipated clashes between the Illawarra Hawks and Melbourne United, and the Sydney Kings vs the Adelaide 36ers, in which Melbourne United and the Adelaide 36ers took out wins.
The NBL announced MG Motor Australia as the official car partner for the next three years. MG is also the presenting partner of the NBL Grand Final Series and will award the NBL Finals MVP winner an MG ZS.
“MG has always been a brand that embraces fun. We wanted to do something that had not yet been done, and knew that changing the key to an octagon would certainly get people talking!” Danny Lenartic, Marketing Director at MG Motor Australia said.
“The octagon is an iconic shape that has been associated with MG for over 90 years of the brand’s history. The teams and crowd embraced the new-look key at its debut and we look forward to rolling this out further throughout the 2019 season.” noted Lenartic
The MG octagonal key will feature in a further 25 games throughout the season, with the next opportunity to see the octagonal key when the Cairns Taipans take on the Illawarra Hawks in Cairns on 21 October.
