BIO: Marko Deric was born in Serbia but moved to Australia as a young child. He grew up in Warnbro, Western Australia. Deric received a scholarship to attend the Australian Institute of Sport (Canberra) in 2005. He spent one year there and played for the program’s state league team.

NBL EXPERIENCE

Marko Deric made his NBL debut with the Perth Wildcats at 22 years of age. He went scoreless in his first NBL game.

Deric averaged 0.7 points per game during the 2009/10 season and helped guide the Wildcat’s to a first place finish (17-11) in the regular season. Deric did not play in the team’s playoff games but was able to watch the Wildcat’s defeated the fourth placed Gold Coast Blaze in two straight games before the team eliminated the Wollongong Hawks in three games.

Deric joined Dynamic VP for the 2018–2019 ABA League season, playing his first documented club season in Serbia while also competing in the Serbian KLS with KK Dynamic Vip Pay Beograd.

During the 2018–2019 ABA League campaign, Deric appeared in 17 games and averaged 7.6 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 20.5 minutes per game while shooting 35.7% on two-pointers, 41.2% on three-pointers, and 75.0% at the foul line for a Dynamic VP squad that included Aleksa Ristic, DeAndre Dishman, Stefan Lakic, and Nemanja Protic.

Deric’s top scoring night in the available ABA League game log came on January 24, 2019 against Sutjeska, when he logged 27 minutes and scored 20 points, and he also reached 18 points in 35 minutes against Rogaska on January 16, 2019 in a 80–75 win.

COLLEGE

Deric played college basketball at Loyola Marymount from the 1999–2000 season through the 2002–03 season, competing in the West Coast Conference under head coach Steve Aggers.

As a freshman in 1999–2000, Loyola Marymount finished 13–17 overall (5–9 WCC), and Deric appeared in 28 games off the bench, totaling 112 points (4.0 points per game) while shooting 42.6% from the field and 33.3% from three-point range, adding 41 total rebounds (1.5 per game) and 16 assists.

In the 2000–01 season, the Lions posted a 14–16 overall record (7–7 WCC), and Deric played in 29 games, averaging 6.8 points and 2.3 rebounds per game while shooting 44.8% from the field and 35.7% from three, finishing the year with 197 total points and 66 rebounds.

During his junior season in 2001–02, Loyola Marymount finished 13–17 (6–8 WCC), and Deric started 22 of 28 games, averaging 11.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 47.3% from the field and 37.5% from beyond the arc, recording 313 total points and 109 rebounds for the season.

As a senior in 2002–03, Loyola Marymount went 15–15 overall (8–6 WCC), and Deric appeared in 30 games with 27 starts, averaging 14.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 48.9% from the field and 38.4% from three-point range, finishing with 438 total points and 144 rebounds.

Across his four-year collegiate career at Loyola Marymount, Deric played in 115 games with 49 starts, totaling 1,060 career points (9.2 points per game), 360 rebounds (3.1 per game), and 122 assists, while shooting 46.7% from the field and 36.8% from three-point range.

He closed his senior year ranked among the team leaders in scoring and field-goal percentage and recorded multiple 20-point performances during the 2002–03 season, including a 23-point outing against Pepperdine and a 21-point game against Santa Clara in conference play.
