Across his Tusculum career (1976-80), Houston is also listed among the program’s top field-goal percentage shooters at .530, and he produced multiple seasons that appear on Tusculum’s single-season leaders lists for both scoring and rebounding.

During the 1977-78 season, Houston’s year is recorded on Tusculum’s single-season lists at 21.6 points per game and 10.2 rebounds per game, showing his rise into one of the program’s primary producers before his award-heavy 1978-79 campaign.

In 1978-79, Houston is listed at 25.6 points per game (a top-five single-season scoring average in program records) and 12.1 rebounds per game (the program’s top single-season rebounding average), and he was also credited with 244 field goals made that season; that same year he was named VSAC Player of the Year, VSAC Eastern Division Player of the Year, VSAC Eastern Division Freshman of the Year, and he earned NAIA All-America honorable mention, NAIA All-District recognition, and NAIA District 24 Player of the Year, while Tusculum won the 1978-79 Volunteer State Athletic Conference title and the VSAC Eastern Division championship.

Houston repeated NAIA District 24 Player of the Year and NAIA All-America honorable mention honors in 1979-80, while appearing on Tusculum’s single-season record lists with 319 total rebounds and a 10.3 rebounds-per-game average; in that 1979-80 season he is also listed at .582 shooting on 213-for-366 from the field, and he made 169 free throws, with Tusculum again winning the VSAC Eastern Division championship.
