BIO: Leigh Wadeson was born in Melbourne (VIC) and began playing basketball as a junior with the Nunawading basketball program.
NBL EXPERIENCE
Leigh Wadeson made his NBL debut with the South East Melbourne Magic at 21 years of age. He scored three points in his first game.
With the Magic coming off an NBL championship in their inaugural season, expectations were high heading into their second year. Coach Brian Goorjian returned with the bulk of his title-winning roster, with the only significant changes being the departure of Scott Ninnis (to Adelaide) and the additions of David Graham (via North Melbourne) and Simon Kerle (via Brisbane).
Leigh Wadeson was added to the team as a training player but due to injuries appeared in 15 games. Wadeson saw limited minutes, averaging 1.1 points, 0.7 rebounds, and 0.3 assists per contest.
While Wadeson did not appear in the Magic’s playoff campaign, his involvement across the regular season helped support a team that once again finished near the top of the ladder. South East Melbourne posted a 20–6 record and a league-best 12–1 mark at Melbourne Park, sweeping the Adelaide 36ers in the quarter-finals before facing archrivals Melbourne Tigers in a semi-final showdown.
South East Melbourne’s season ultimately ended in disappointment, as Boomers big man Mark Bradtke—who had joined the Tigers from Adelaide—proved the difference. Bradtke delivered 21 points and 9 rebounds in Melbourne’s Game 1 win (108–106), then followed it with 28 points and 15 rebounds in Game 2 (89–72), eliminating the Magic in straight sets and halting their hopes of a repeat championship.
Leigh Wadeson played two seasons the South East Melbourne Magic. He averaged 1.5 points, 0.6 rebounds, and 0.2 assists in 19 NBL games.
