Scoines played college basketball at San Diego Christian College during the 2007–08 season, competing in the NAIA ranks for the Hawks before returning to Australia to continue his career.
In the 2007–08 campaign, San Diego Christian competed as an NAIA program in the Golden State Athletic Conference under head coach Terry Tucker, with Scoines appearing in 28 games and starting 24 contests during the season.
Across those 28 appearances, he averaged 15.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.3 steals per game while logging over 30 minutes per outing and establishing himself as one of the team’s primary perimeter scorers.
He shot 45.2% from the field on the season, including 38.6% from three-point range, where he connected on 61 three-pointers, and he converted 78.4% of his free-throw attempts, finishing the year with 442 total points.
Scoines recorded double-figure scoring performances in 22 of his 28 games, including five outings of 20 or more points, and he posted a season-high 27 points in conference play while also recording multiple games with eight or more rebounds.
In conference competition, he averaged 16.4 points per game and ranked among the team leaders in both scoring and three-point shooting percentage, contributing to San Diego Christian’s mid-table conference finish that season.
Over the course of the year, he totaled 171 rebounds, including 46 offensive rebounds and 125 defensive boards, along with 68 assists, 36 steals, and 14 blocked shots, while committing 63 turnovers across the schedule.
