INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • Italy - Pastificio di Nola Napoli (2001)

Bowman joined Pastificio di Nola Napoli for the 2001–02 LegaDue season, playing his first season in Italy.

Playing for S.S. Basket Napoli in Naples, Bowman’s stint was brief, as he appeared in one Italian-league game and did not score, with the club competing in Italy’s second division (LegaDue) during that period.

COLLEGE

Bowman suited up for Providence as a freshman in 1991-92, when the Friars went 14-17 overall (6-12 Big East) under head coach Rick Barnes, scoring 76.2 points per game while allowing 74.5.

In that 1991-92 season at Providence, Bowman appeared in 28 games and averaged 12.6 minutes, producing 4.5 points per game while shooting 39-for-80 from the field (48.8%), hitting 1-for-5 from three (20.0%), and going 44-for-69 at the line (63.8%).

Across those 28 games in 1991-92, he averaged 0.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per contest, and his per-game split included 1.4 field goals made on 2.9 attempts, with 0.8 turnovers, 0.8 steals, and 0.0 blocks per game listed in his season line, while playing alongside teammates including Marques Bragg, Michael Smith, Rob Phelps, Dickey Simpkins, Trent Forbes, and Corey Floyd.

As a sophomore in 1992-93, Bowman returned to Providence for a 20-13 season (9-9 Big East) that reached the NIT semifinals, with the Friars averaging 70.8 points per game and holding opponents to 64.8, and key rotation teammates that season included Michael Smith, Tony Turner, Dickey Simpkins, Michael Brown, Franklin Western, Rob Phelps, Trent Forbes, Matt Alosa, and Abdul Abdullah, while Bowman’s roster line listed him at 3.1 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 0.3 assists per game across 33 games.

Bowman transferred to the University of Pennsylvania and debuted for Penn in 1994-95 as part of a 22-6 campaign under Fran Dunphy that finished 14-0 in Ivy League play, then went to the NCAA tournament and lost 85-91 in overtime to Alabama in the first round, with Bowman’s season line showing 27 games at 26.7 minutes per game and averages of 10.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.7 steals, and 0.6 blocks while shooting 105-for-202 from the field (52.0%), 15-for-36 from three (41.7%), and 62-for-87 at the line (71.3%) for teammates that included Matt Maloney and Jerome Allen, and he was named second-team All-Ivy that season.

In 1995-96, Bowman led Penn in a senior season that ended 17-10 overall (12-2 Ivy), and he was also the Ivy League Player of the Year (1995–1996) when he was playing for the University of Pennsylvania, averaging 16.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.3 assists in 27 games while logging 35.2 minutes per night and shooting 148-for-326 from the field (45.4%), 27-for-74 from three (36.5%), and 120-for-170 at the line (70.6%), as Penn’s senior core included co-captains Bowman and Tim Krug (14.0 points and 8.9 rebounds per game) along with Don Moxley (12.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game), and the Quakers’ season concluded with a 56-63 overtime loss to Princeton in the one-game Ivy League playoff at Stabler Arena after the teams tied atop the league at 12-2.

During that 1995-96 Ivy League race, Bowman posted a 30-point game on 12-for-17 shooting in a win at Cornell, had a 29-point outing at Harvard, scored 24 points against Brown, and in a Dartmouth game he finished with 17 points on 7-for-16 shooting while adding six assists and six steals, with that stretch reflecting the expanded on-ball role he handled in Penn’s backcourt as the season progressed.
