The Geelong Supercats will host a visiting Chinese development team on Thursday 29th November in an exhibition match.
The Chinese team, made up of promising young players aged 15-19, is coached by former SEABL Nunawading Spectres coach and Knox Raiders player Craig Simpson. The team (the Dongguan Leopards) is a development team for the CBA, which is coached by former Boomers head coach Brian Goorjian.
Aussie Basketball Travellers, a sponsor of the Geelong Supercats, are bringing the Dongguan Leopards to Australia for a twenty one day tour, which includes ten exhibition games in Victoria and three games in New South Wales.
The Chinese team will face the Ballarat Miners on Tuesday 27th November before heading to Geelong to take on the Supercats on the 29th.
Presented by the Bendigo Bank, the Geelong match will be played at the historic home of the Supercats – the Corio Leisuretime Centre, where the team played for a number of years before the Geelong Arena was built in the 1980’s.
Geelong will field a team of SEABL and Big V Victorian Youth Championship players in the exhibition match, which will be open to the public for a gold coin donation. Having already begun pre-season training for 2013, Coach Jamie O’Loughlin is looking forward to the hit out. “It’s not every day you get to play against a team from another country. It will be great experience for our guys, and for the visiting team.”
Spectators will have a chance to see their favourite players and up and coming young basketballers playing against an international team right here in Geelong.
