With over 15 years of supplying Australia’s with high quality basketball uniforms DUNK Basketball have decided to partner with Aussie Hoopla in an effort to support Aussie Hoops and our countries rich basketball history.
It shouldn’t be a surprise that DUNK, one of the very few basketball uniform designers in Australia who still produce uniforms locally in Australia are doing what they keen to ensure the history of Australian basketball isn’t forgotten.
Aussie Hoopla host Dan Boyce recently chatted with owner Ben Arndt for a quick introduction to the business.
Tell us how DUNK got started?
I co-founded DUNK in 2004 with another two gents, who like myself were passionate about basketball. I’d previously worked with another sportswear group where I’d started to learn the ropes and I often found myself thinking about what could be done better.
I discussed my thoughts with a trusted colleague from on and off the court, he in turn brought in another fellow with invaluable business experience, and from there DUNK was born.
We all had great contacts from various experiences within the game and the venture hit the ground running. The greater Brisbane area was our main focal point early on but we quickly grew through word of mouth and 15 years on we’re literally shipping orders to every corner of Australia, it’s great!
What’s unique about your business?
There’s a combination of things that make us stand out. We produce locally. All orders are made and sent out within 3 weeks. We give a shit about providing great customer service and our end product is exceptional.
I humbly believe these elements work together to make us an industry leader and something we can hang our hat on as a business.
What can people expect when they order from DUNK?
An excellent customer experience. We’re responsive and honest with all communications and people can trust that we’ll turn their order around within the sharpest time possible.
For us it’s not a money-making exercise, we genuinely care that teams are trusting us with their business and want them to feel confident that we’ll go the extra mile to nail their order, regardless of whether they’re a small or large client.
Which groups do you cater to?
Literally anyone! It’s worked out over time that our core business is largely social teams across Australia, which is great because we love the clever team names and designs that come our way.
Outside of that we consistently produce a large number of orders for schools, associations, buck’s weekends, and a bunch of random other things. Men and women, juniors and seniors, we do it all.
Tell us a little about yourself, who do you support?
I’m a San Antonio fan through and through. I got into the game at the same time David Robinson was a rook and for whatever reason I attached myself to the Spurs. Apart from a horror 20-62 season when the Admiral went down and Dominique Wilkins led the team in scoring (!!) it’s been a fun ride.
I’ve been to a bunch of their home games over the years and the fan experience is right up there. Locally I don’t follow a particular team but am a HUGE supporter of the league in general.
Larry Kestleman has been fantastic in turning the competition around and there hasn’t been a better time to be an NBL fan than right now.
