BIO: Born in Oakland, California, Drew Barry graduated from De La Salle High School in Concord in 1991 and played four seasons with the Yellow Jackets basketball team at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) after redshirting his freshman year.

FAMILY: Drew’s brother, Richard Barry also played 4 games in the NBL.

INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • Germany - Brandt Hagen (2000–2001) | Italy - Metis Varese (2001–2002), Celana Bergamo (2001–2002) | Poland - Prokom Trefl Sopot (2002–2003)

During the 2000–01 season, Barry played in Germany with Brandt Hagen in the Basketball Bundesliga, appearing in 24 league games and averaging 15.0 points and 5.7 assists per game, and his time with the club included an on-court altercation with teammate Daren Queenan.

In the 2001–02 season, Barry had a short stint in Italy with Metis Varese in the country’s top division, playing six games and averaging 5.7 points per game, before moving later that season to second-division side Celana Bergamo, where he was added mid-season on January 18 and joined an import group that included Derrick Davenport and Deon Watson, with the team finishing 14th (12–24) and being relegated.

Barry moved to Poland for the 2002–03 season with Prokom Trefl Sopot, playing 41 domestic league games and totaling 306 points in 870 minutes, while Prokom finished as the Polish league runner-up after losing the finals 4–2 to Anwil, and his season included Eurobasket recognition as a Polish league All-Newcomers Team selection.

With Prokom, Barry also featured in the 2002–03 FIBA Europe Champions Cup, playing 11 Conference North games (8.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game) and six Pan European Phase games (3.3 points, 1.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game), and he was part of the Prokom roster alongside Joseph McNaull, Goran Jagodnik, Jiří Zídek, Tomas Masiulis, Josip Vranković, Dragan Marković, Darius Maskoliūnas, Filip Dylewicz and Todd Fuller under coach Eugeniusz Kijewski as the club reached the final and lost by one point to Aris Thessaloniki.

COLLEGE

Drew Barry played at Georgia Tech from 1992–93 to 1995–96 and finished his career as the school’s all-time assists leader with 724, a total that also ranked eighth in ACC history at the time.

Barry started for Georgia Tech from 1993–96 and assisted on 724 made field goals across his Tech career, the most in school history.

As a freshman in 1992–93, he helped drive Georgia Tech’s run to the 1993 ACC Tournament championship, setting a school ACC Tournament single-game record with 13 assists versus Clemson and then totaling 27 assists for the tournament, which earned him a spot on the ACC All-Tournament first team.

Across the middle of his Tech career, Barry became one of the ACC’s most consistent playmakers, becoming just the third player in league history to lead the conference in assists for three straight seasons.

As a senior in 1995–96, Barry averaged 13.5 points and an ACC-leading 6.6 assists per game, earned second-team All-ACC honours, and helped lead Georgia Tech to the 1996 ACC regular-season title and an NCAA Tournament run to the Sweet 16.

Over his full Georgia Tech career, Barry was credited with 1,253 points, 482 rebounds, and his record-setting 724 assists, cementing his place among the program’s most productive guards of the modern era.
