STATE LEAGUE EXPERIENCE

  • Illawarra (2007–2008), Manly Warringah (2015–2016)

Cooks joined Illawarra for the 2007 Waratah League season, playing with the Illawarra Seahawks club while developing through the Wollongong basketball pathway.

Cooks continued with Illawarra in 2008 and was named Illawarra Basketball Association Player of the Year. During that season, he averaged approximately 17.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game, while also playing for New South Wales at the Australian National Championships and helping that team finish with an 8–2 record.

Cooks joined Manly Warringah for the 2015 Waratah League season after returning from his college career and later NBL stint. Manly Warringah reached the 2015 Championship Men final, with Cooks part of a roster that included Brock Dries, Cale Bulgin, Samuel Bresnik, Stefan Blaszcynski, Luke Cooper, Tim Hill, Daniel Hobin, Duane Jordan, Lachlan Kirwan, Nathan Kirwan, Nicholas Kirwan, Kyle Painter and Steven White under coach David Todd.

Cooks remained with Manly Warringah for the 2016 Waratah League season, completing a two-year state league stint with the club.

COLLEGE

Dom Cooks began his US college career at Utah State University, where he redshirted during the 2008–09 season under head coach Stew Morrill and did not record game statistics for the Aggies that year.

He transferred to Chaminade University and played four seasons from 2009–10 through 2012–13, beginning with a freshman year in 2009–10 where he averaged 6.1 points and 2.9 rebounds per game, started 10 games, logged 26 minutes per night, finished second on the team with 56 assists, and posted a season-high 19 points against Hawaii Pacific on February 25.

As a sophomore in 2010–11, Cooks appeared in all 29 games and shot 48 percent from the field, including a 7.1 points-per-game average in conference play as he continued to grow into a larger two-way backcourt role for the Silverswords.

His most complete collegiate season came as a junior in 2011–12, when he started all 22 games he played, averaged 9.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, logged 32.7 minutes per outing, and again ranked second on the team in assists with 72, while also earning PacWest All-Academic Team honours.

During the 2012–13 season, Cooks continued as a key guard in Chaminade’s rotation and was credited with 4.6 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game for the year, with one of his most visible early-season performances coming against Texas on November 19, 2012, when he recorded 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists in 31 minutes.
