COLLEGE

Chad McClendon played at Appalachian State Mountaineers across four seasons from 1991–92 through 1994–95, with his most productive stretch coming from 1992–93 to 1994–95 as he developed into one of the program’s top rebounders and a consistent double-figure scorer.

As a freshman in 1991–92, McClendon averaged 3.7 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 0.6 assists per game in a supporting role before making a major jump the following year.

As a sophomore in 1992–93, he moved into a featured role and averaged 13.1 points and 8.4 rebounds per game, a season in which he pulled down 235 total rebounds (8.4 per game) to lead the Southern Conference in rebounding.

That 1992–93 campaign also included one of Appalachian State’s top single-game rebounding efforts, as McClendon grabbed 19 rebounds against Western Carolina, a total that remains tied for the program’s single-game record.

As a junior in 1993–94, McClendon increased his production again to 17.1 points and 8.9 rebounds per game, finishing with 239 total rebounds (8.9 per game) and continuing to sit among the league’s most productive frontcourt players.

He reached his statistical peak as a senior in 1994–95, averaging 18.4 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game while collecting 293 total rebounds (10.1 per game), which led the Southern Conference in total rebounds for the second time in three seasons.

McClendon’s senior season included a signature scoring night against VMI on January 28, 1995, when he recorded 33 points and 12 rebounds in a high-scoring matchup, and that season also featured another 19-rebound performance against VMI that tied the school’s single-game rebounding record again.

Across his Appalachian State career, McClendon finished with 1,468 points and 840 rebounds, ranking 14th in program history in scoring and eighth in rebounds, and his career field-goal percentage (.541) is listed among the school’s best career marks in the program’s historical leaders.
