MacDonald remained with Sandringham through the 2014 SEABL season, when the Sabres finished 14–12, secured the final South Conference playoff place through their head-to-head record against Frankston and Bendigo, and were eliminated in the semi-final after losing to Kilsyth by nine points.

MacDonald continued with Sandringham in the 2015 SEABL season and hit a late three-pointer to force overtime against Canberra in May, while another close early-season game saw him seal a 64–61 win over Hobart from the free-throw line.
