STATE LEAGUE EXPERIENCE

MacDonald joined Sandringham for the 2010 SEABL season, beginning a long state league stint with the Sabres that ran through the 2018 season.

MacDonald remained with Sandringham through the 2014 SEABL season, when the Sabres finished 14–12, secured the final South Conference playoff place through their head-to-head record against Frankston and Bendigo, and were eliminated in the semi-final after losing to Kilsyth by nine points.

MacDonald continued with Sandringham in the 2015 SEABL season and hit a late three-pointer to force overtime against Canberra in May, while another close early-season game saw him seal a 64–61 win over Hobart from the free-throw line.

MacDonald stayed with Sandringham for the 2018 SEABL season, averaging 14.8 points, 1.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 0.6 steals across 20 games while playing 26 minutes per game.

MacDonald joined Frankston for the 2019 NBL1 season and averaged 7.6 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.9 steals across 22 games, including 20 regular-season games and two playoff games. He also made 28 three-pointers, shot 35.0 percent from three-point range and scored all 13 of his points in the first half of a 97–92 win over Sandringham in Round 15.

MacDonald re-signed with Frankston for the 2020 NBL1 season before the season was cancelled, with his two-year commitment rolled over into the 2021 NBL1 South season.

MacDonald returned with Frankston for the 2021 NBL1 South season and averaged 13.0 points, 1.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.0 steals per game. He led Frankston in assists, ranked second on the team in made threes at 2.7 per game, scored 27 points with six made threes in a 137–102 win over Ringwood, and added 13 points in a 91–73 win over his former Sandringham team.

MacDonald remained with Frankston for the 2022 NBL1 South season, with the Blues naming him on a roster that also included Lachlan Barker, Dillon Stith, Daniel Trist, Igor Hadziomerovic, Adrio Bailey, Jarryd Moss, Will Peirce, Henry Peirce and Tom Garrett.

MacDonald scored 18 points with four rebounds in Frankston’s 88–82 road win over Geelong during the 2022 NBL1 South season, then made eight three-pointers for 24 points as Frankston defeated Geelong 87–57 in an elimination final.

MacDonald scored 19 points with five made threes in Frankston’s 77–66 semi-final loss to Sandringham, which ended the Blues’ NBL1 South playoff run before the team entered the NBL1 National Finals as the men’s Wildcard Series winner.

MacDonald was part of the Frankston squad that reached the 2022 NBL1 National Championship game, where the Blues were defeated 85–74 by the NBL1 West champion Rockingham Flames at the State Basketball Centre.
