COLLEGE

Westover played college basketball at Pacific, As a freshman he joined Stan Morrison’s program in 1972-73 and remained with the Tigers through the 1975-76 season.

Pacific competed in the Pacific Coast Athletic Association during Westover’s college years, and by his later seasons he was part of a roster that included players such as Leonard Armato, Gary Dean, Ron James, Chad Meyer, Myron Jordan, Keith Young, Vic Baker, Walter Trotter, Bruce Palmer and Tim Halemeier.

On Pacific’s junior varsity side, Westover had at least one notable scoring performance with 18 points in a game against San Jose State’s JV, with Kevin Purcell adding 12 points in the same contest.

As a junior in 1974-75, Westover played in 5 varsity games as a guard for a Pacific team that finished 12-14 overall and 3-7 in PCAA play, placing sixth under head coach Stan Morrison.

He averaged 2.0 points and 0.6 rebounds per game that season while shooting 4-for-11 from the field for 36.4 percent and 2-for-2 at the foul line for 100 percent.

His 1974-75 totals were 10 points, 3 rebounds and 3 personal fouls, and he did not have any recorded starts in the available season breakdown.

That Pacific team averaged 72.7 points per game and allowed 74.0, with Leonard Armato leading the roster at 12.8 points per game, Gary Dean close behind at 12.7, Keith Young at 10.6, Ron James at 10.1 and Chad Meyer at 8.4.

The 1974-75 roster also showed Westover as a junior guard, while Dean, James, Meyer and Young formed an experienced senior core around returning players such as Myron Jordan, Vic Baker, Bruce Palmer and Tim Halemeier.

COACHING HISTORY

Alan William Westover is a professional basketball coach best known for his tenure with the Melbourne Tigers in the NBL, where he coached the team to four consecutive Grand Finals, winning two championships, and being the second winningest coach in league history (based on winning percentage over 100 games coached).

Westover coached the Dandenong Rangers in the Victorian State league in 1987 where they finished in third place during the regular season before being eliminated during the semi finals.

Westover was the coach of the Shiga Lakestars of the Basketball Japan (BJ) League in Ōtsu City, Shiga.

In his first year with the Lakestars, Westover helped the club reach their highest number of wins in their seven-year history, and to the second round of the playoffs where they lost to eventual champions, Okinawa.
