Montrezl Harrell has officially committed to the Adelaide 36ers for the remainder of the NBL season.
After a week of mounting speculation, Harrell’s agent, Darrell Comer of Tandem Sports & Entertainment, confirmed today that the former NBA Sixth Man of the Year has extended his contract, ensuring he will stay with the 36ers through the end of the season.
Since joining the team, Harrell has made an impact both on and off the court. He’s averaging 15.7 points on 55.6% shooting, along with 10.3 rebounds and 1 block per game while becoming the face of the NBL as well.

In his short time in the league, Harrell has quickly become a prominent figure, providing plenty of sound bites by wearing a microphone during games and even chanting ‘Hungry Jacks’ along with fans during missed free throws. His connection with the fans even led to a bizarre moment where he received a warning from referees for engaging with the crowd too much. The warning was later rescinded, with referee James Griguol personally apologizing to Harrell during a timeout for being overly strict.
“It’s definitely the first time I ever heard the ref say that,” Harrell remarked.
Initially signed as an injury replacement for Jarell Martin, Harrell’s strong performances have now solidified his place in the squad. With Martin nearing a return to action, the 36ers will soon be able to deploy a formidable trio of Harrell, Martin, and Isaac Humphries in their frontcourt, creating a powerful rotation as the season progresses.

Harrell has also expressed his appreciation for the support he’s received from the Adelaide fans. Following the 36ers’ victory over the Sydney Kings last Friday, Harrell hinted at his plans to stay in Australia.
“These fans and this organisation have been nothing but giving love to me and supporting me ever since I got off that plane after the 24-hour flight. It’s been amazing, and I’m just looking to keep doing everything that I can for this organisation, and they are giving it right back.” said Harrell.
While Harrell remains focused on the NBL season, he will be eligible to sign with an NBA team ahead of the playoffs, making him a key player to watch as the year unfolds. With Jarell Martin nearing a return to the 36ers, there are questions about how minutes will be shared among the three frontcourt stars. However, Harrell’s ability to complement both Martin and Humphries could form a powerful rotation, providing Adelaide with the depth it needs for a deep playoff push.
Harrell’s signing will necessitate a roster move to accommodate both him and Martin within the team’s 11-man squad. To make room, second-year forward Alex Starling will be released, clearing the way for Harrell’s inclusion on the full roster.
