Any Australian basketball fan would probably have to be living under a rock not to know that the NBL is playing on FOX Sports this season. But did you know that the league will also be shown on Free-to-Air?
The NBL and SBS announced last month that the public broadcaster would be screening two games a week on the weekend LIVE and in HD, in a move that effectively doubled the league’s FTA visibility.
However there is another station that has bought into the NBL hype train.
After a decade-long hiatus, the ABC appears to have come back into the fold confirming delayed telecasts on Friday nights on their website.
No deal has been officially announced between the ABC and NBL to screen the games, however the update on the ABC website suggests a deal has been struck.
The weekly ABC screening will bring the NBL’s weekly FTA coverage up to three games a week, which equates to approximately half of the games played each round.
The ABC’s coverage will begin at 11:05pm on Friday, the 6th of October as Cairns Taipans take on the Illawarra Hawks.
SBS coverage will begin on SBS VICELAND at 5:30pm Saturday as the Adelaide 36ers take on the Sydney Kings, and will be followed up on Sunday, 3pm as the New Zealand Breakers take on the Cairns Taipans on SBS.
