BIO: Harry Morris was born in Wollongong (NSW) and began playing basketball as a junior with the Illawarra basketball program.

NBL EXPERIENCE

Harry Morris made his NBL debut with the Illawarra Hawks at 20 years of age. He went scoreless in his first NBL game.

After two consecutive semi-final appearances, the Illawarra Hawks faced significant upheaval as head coach Brian Goorjian departed to coach the Bay Area Dragons in the East Asia Super League. His assistant, Jacob Jackomas, stepped into the head coaching role but inherited a team that saw a major talent exodus. Key players like Duop Reath, Justinian Jessup, Antonius Cleveland, and Xavier Rathan-Mayes left for other opportunities, while AJ Ogilvy retired.

To rebuild the roster, Illawarra brought in Deng Deng (via Brisbane), Wani Swaka Lo Buluk (via Perth), Mangok Mathiang from NBL1, and imports Justin Robinson and George King. However, injuries derailed the Hawks’ season early. Robinson suffered a meniscus tear in the opening game, and King was later released due to a persistent leg injury. Replacement Peyton Siva managed only 11 games before a shoulder injury ended his season.

Illawarra finished with a 3-25 record, the worst in franchise history. Tyler Harvey (18.9 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists) led the team in scoring, while Sam Froling (14 points, 8 rebounds) was named the Hawks’ MVP. Harry Morris suited up for four games, averaging 1.5 points per game in limited minutes.

2023/24
Illawarra extended Morris development player deal for a second stint with the Hawks.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my first season and am looking forward to continuing to learn from Jacob, our coaches, and the senior players,” he said upon re-signing.

“Being a part of the Hawks program was something I always aspired to as a junior and I am thrilled to have my stay extended in to a second season.”

Harry Morris played one season in the NBL. He averaged 1.5 points, 0 rebounds, and 0 assists in 4 NBL games.

    • Sydney Kings’ Xavier Cooks Faces Further Consequences After Positive Cocaine Test

Sydney Kings captain Xavier Cooks has served most of his one-month suspension for testing positive for cocaine but may still face additional disciplinary action from his club. He was provisionally suspended in early February after returning an adverse analytical finding just two days before the Kings’ sudden-death clash against Adelaide. Basketball Australia later confirmed the ban, though the club initially cited “personal leave” as the reason for his absence. Despite the violation, Sydney Kings officials reportedly want to retain Cooks, who remains under contract for…

    • New Sydney NBL Team: A Next Stars Hub in the Making?

A second Sydney NBL team is expected to be the league’s next expansion franchise, with Gold Coast, Darwin, and Canberra all encountering significant roadblocks in recent months. It’s believed the Harbour City Stars is the leading candidate for the team name, following a branding strategy similar to how San Francisco’s Golden State Warriors use a regional moniker rather than the city’s name. This broader identity would emphasize the team’s connection to Sydney’s iconic harbor while avoiding geographical constraints within the city. In addition to Harbour…
