BIO: a athletic 6’7″ small forward, Young was born in Wichita, Kansas (USA) and attended Wichita East High School and Hargrave Military Academy (Virginia). As a senior at Hargrave, he decided to skip college and declare himself eligible for the 1998 NBA Draft. Hargrave’s then assistant coach, Kevin Keatts, said, “Normally, when a kid is thinking about something like this, you’ll hear about it. But with Korleone, it was a total surprise”.

Despite his status as a blue chip top college recruit, he slid in the draft. The Detroit Pistons decided to take a chance on Young, selecting him with their second-round pick (40th overall), but Young’s tenure with the team was very brief.

NBL EXPERIENCE

Korleone Young made his NBL debut with the Canberra Cannons at 22 years of age. He scored 11 points in his first game.

After NBA and CBA disappointments Young looked to continue his career overseas and signed with the NBL’s Canberra Cannons. With Canberra, Young averaged 27 points to become the 2001 NBL Preseason MVP, but he suffered a injury in the first game of the regular season and terminated his contract with the Cannons on January 9, 2002.

After his short EXPERIENCE with the Cannons Young attempted to realise his basketball potential with several other international times in Russia, China, Italy and Israel but was never able to deliver on the hype which accompanied his high school career.

Korleone Young played in one NBL game during the 2001-02 season, scoring 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Young appeared in only three games at the end of the lockout-shortened 1999 season and scored 13 total points. The Pistons cut ties with Young soon afterwards because of an injury which limited his effectiveness, and despite summer-league stints with the Philadelphia 76ers, he never made another NBA roster.

The Pistons cut ties with Young soon afterwards because of an injury which limited his effectiveness, and despite summer-league stints with the Philadelphia 76ers, he never made another NBA roster. Because of his failed NBA career, Youngs name was cited by many people who supported David Sterns eventual raising of the NBAs minimum draft age. Additionally, Youngs coaches questioned his work ethic and maturity.

Young played 3 games in the NBA. He averaged 4.3 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 0.3 assists per game over his NBA career.
