NBL EXPERIENCE

Eddie Gill made his NBL debut with the Townsville Crocodiles at 33 years of age. He scored 13 points in his first game.

Most remember Eddie Gill playing out of his skin in Melbourne, putting 27 points in a half on Patty Mills, but few will remember this game played just prior to Christmas.

Gill also exploded for 26 points, 3 rebounds, 9 assists, 1 block in 26 minutes during a game against the Sydney Kings on December 23 2011. Townsville would defeat the Kings 100-93. In a quiet, but brilliant effort Gill hardly missed shooting 8/11 from the field and 5/6 from downtown and the charity stripe.

Eddie Gill played one season in the NBL. He averaged 13.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in 31 NBL games.

INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • taly - Paf Bologna (2000–2001), Bipop-Carire Reggio (2003) | Greece - Ionikos N.F. Athens (2003–2004) | Russia - Dynamo Moscow (2006–2007) | Belgium - Base Oostende (2009–2010) | Germany - EWE Baskets (2010–2011)

Gill joined Paf Bologna for the 2000–01 Lega Basket Serie A season, briefly appearing for the Italian club at the end of the campaign and logging one game in European competition alongside teammates Gianluca Basile and Giacomo Galanda.

Gill moved back to Italy in February 2003, signing with Bipop-Carire Reggio in the Legadue, where he averaged 14.1 points and 2.9 rebounds across 13 games for Reggio Emilia.

Gill then joined Ionikos N.F. Athens for the 2003–04 Greek Basket League season, averaging 15.8 points and 3.7 assists over six games before leaving the club early in the campaign.

In 2006–07, Gill joined Dynamo Moscow for the EuroLeague season, playing 20 EuroLeague games and averaging 6.2 points and 1.4 assists while sharing the roster with Bojan Popovic, Travis Hansen, Lazaros Papadopoulos, Sergey Bykov, and Dmitry Domani, as Dynamo finished 14–8 in EuroLeague play.

Gill joined Base Oostende in November 2009 for the 2009–10 Belgian League season, and in 26 games he averaged 7.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 2.2 steals as Oostende won the Belgian Cup in 2010.

Gill finished his European club career with EWE Baskets Oldenburg in Germany, signing on 6 December 2010 for the remainder of the 2010–11 season and playing 27 league games while averaging 7.1 points, 2.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.4 steals, while also appearing in two EuroCup games where he averaged 5.0 points, 1.0 rebound, 4.0 assists, and 1.5 steals, alongside teammates Louis Campbell and Aron Baynes.

COLLEGE

Gill played college basketball at USU Eastern during the 1996–97 season before transferring to Salt Lake Community College, where he competed in 1997–98, and he then moved on to Weber State University for two NCAA Division I seasons from 1998–99 to 1999–2000.

After high school, Gill enrolled at the College of Eastern Utah (now USU Eastern) in Price, Utah, and played on the basketball team, averaging 6.1 points and 2.4 assists.

In 1997, Gill transferred to Salt Lake Community College and again played basketball, posting 16.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game, and his junior-college stretch included recognition as a junior college All-American before he stepped up to Division I at Weber State.

Gill transferred to Weber State University in 1998 and played two seasons for the Wildcats, immediately becoming a major-minute guard who started every game he played in at the school (61 starts) and averaged 35.2 minutes per game across his Weber State career, with his first season in Ogden doubling as his Big Sky Conference introduction as he earned Big Sky Newcomer of the Year recognition in 1998–99 and First Team All-Big Sky honours.

As a Weber State junior in 1998–99, Gill averaged 14.0 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 4.5 assists, and he elevated those numbers during the 1999 Big Sky Conference tournament as the tournament MVP by averaging 18.5 points, 7.5 assists, and 3.5 steals per game in two wins that secured the conference’s automatic NCAA tournament bid, including the title-game win over Northern Arizona in which he logged 40 minutes with 15 points, nine assists, and six rebounds while limiting his turnovers to two despite handling heavy ball duties.

Weber State carried that momentum into the 1999 NCAA tournament as a No. 14 seed and upset No. 3 North Carolina 76–74 in the opening round, with Gill scoring 16 points on 4-of-12 shooting and 5-of-5 free throws while adding five defensive rebounds, two assists, and two steals, before the Wildcats’ season ended in the next round against No. 6 Florida, when Gill produced 19 points on 5-of-14 shooting and 7-of-8 free throws with five assists and three defensive rebounds, closing a 25–8 season that included the Big Sky championship run.

As a senior in 1999–2000, Gill started all 28 games and again landed on the First Team All-Big Sky list while averaging 16.3 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 6.9 assists, and his season featured the only triple-double recorded in Weber State men’s basketball history when he posted 15 points, 14 assists, and 11 rebounds against Montana State on February 26, 2000, alongside a steals rate of 3.2 per game that stands as Weber State’s best single-season steals average, supported by a two-year Wildcats résumé that totaled 919 points in 61 games, 178 career steals (long the school record), and a single-game school record of nine steals, while also ranking among the program’s career assist leaders and being listed among Big Sky historical leaders in free throw percentage.
