BIO: David Cooper was born in Toowoomba (QLD) and began playing basketball as a junior with the Brisbane basketball program.

NBL EXPERIENCE

David Cooper made his NBL debut with the Brisbane Bullets at 24 years of age. He scored 12 points in his first game.

Following the 2002/03 season, Cooper moved to New Zealand where he joined the Manawatu Jets for the 2003 New Zealand NBL season.

He went on to earn league MVP honours that year, while also garnering Most Outstanding Forward and All-Star Five honours.

David Cooper played ten seasons across four NBL teams. This included the Brisbane Bullets, Victoria Giants, Cairns Taipans and Adelaide 36ers. He averaged 5.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1 assists in 293 NBL games.

INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • New Zealand - Manawatu (2004–2005)

Cooper joined Manawatu for the 2004 New Zealand NBL season, playing that year in New Zealand and finishing as the league’s rebounding champion at 11.7 rebounds per game to win the Garry Pettis Memorial Trophy, while also earning Player of the Week recognition in Round 1 and again in Round 10.

Cooper returned to Manawatu for the 2005 New Zealand NBL season, where he again led the league in rebounding at 11.7 per game to repeat as the Garry Pettis Memorial Trophy winner, and he played in a Jets group that included import teammate Mike Coleman with Mike McHugh continuing as head coach and Darren Larsen stepping up into an expanded coaching role on the staff.

COACHING HISTORY

In 2012, Cooper became an assistant coach for the Norwood Flames. He became head coach the following year, winning Central ABL Coach of the Year honours in 2014.
