INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • Malaysia - Malaysia (1985–1987)

Bullock joined Malaysia for the 1985 season, moving there after college to pursue a professional basketball opportunity in the country.

Bullock remained connected to the Malaysian basketball scene into 1987, when contemporary coverage noted American coach Tom Wisman and his countrymen James Bullock and Scott George as key figures who were not expected to be involved in that year’s Merlion Cup build-up in Singapore.

COLLEGE

Bullock played college basketball at Purdue from 1981 to 1985. As a freshman in 1981-82, he appeared in 28 games with three starts and averaged 7.8 minutes, 1.9 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 0.3 assists per game while shooting 43.2% from the field and 76.2% at the free-throw line.

He finished that freshman season with 54 points, 31 rebounds, and eight assists across 218 minutes as Purdue went 18-14 overall and 11-7 in Big Ten play to place fifth under head coach Gene Keady.

As a sophomore in 1982-83, Bullock played in 30 games with 23 starts and averaged 27.9 minutes, 7.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per game while shooting 51.6% from the field and 65.9% at the free-throw line.

He totaled 220 points, 167 rebounds, and 26 assists in 837 minutes during Purdue’s 21-9 season (11-7 Big Ten, second place) under Gene Keady, and his teammates selected him as the team’s most improved player.

Purdue reached the NCAA Tournament in 1982-83 as a No. 5 seed in the Mideast Region, beating Robert Morris 55-53 before losing 78-68 to Arkansas in the second round, and Bullock had a notable December 1982 performance with 12 points and 12 rebounds in a game during that season.

As a junior in 1983-84, he appeared in 29 games with 14 starts and averaged 28.0 minutes, 8.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per game while shooting 55.5% from the field and 47.1% at the free-throw line.

He posted 253 points, 150 rebounds, and 20 assists in 812 minutes as Purdue finished 22-7 overall and 15-3 in the Big Ten to win the conference regular-season title under Gene Keady and end the year ranked 10th in the final AP poll.

Purdue advanced to the 1984 NCAA Tournament as a No. 3 seed in the Midwest Region and exited in its first tournament game, losing 66-48 to Memphis in the Midwest Second Round after receiving a first-round bye.

As a senior in 1984-85, Bullock started all 29 games and averaged 32.8 minutes, 14.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game while shooting 57.0% from the field and 54.6% at the free-throw line.

He produced 411 points, 190 rebounds, 36 assists, 57 steals, and 87 blocks in 951 minutes as Purdue went 20-9 overall and 11-7 in Big Ten play to place third under head coach Gene Keady, and he earned All-Big Ten recognition for the 1984-85 season.

Purdue returned to the NCAA Tournament in 1984-85 as a No. 6 seed in the Southeast Region and lost 59-58 to Auburn in the Southeast First Round.

Across his Purdue career from 1981-82 through 1984-85, Bullock played 116 games with 69 starts and totaled 938 points, 538 rebounds, and 90 assists while averaging 8.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game in 2,818 minutes.
